New exhibition Announcement 🗓

"Irving Norman: Fight for Life" is a focused survey of the late Bay Area artist, known for creating monumental paintings critiquing the perils of modern life. Featuring several works from SJMA’s collection, the exhibition is guided by the remarkable story of this Bay Area local, whose experiences as an activist and a volunteer fighter in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War fueled his belief in the necessity of art to catalyze social and political change. On view at SJMA beginning November 13, 2026.

“Irving Norman: Fight for Life” is a focused survey of the late Bay Area artist, known for creating monumental paintings critiquing the perils of modern life.
