Messing around with my buddy Marty’s Fuzz Face and we figured out a cool adjustable Volume Boost solution if you need a bit more db’s on the main Volume control to achieve unity gain or get a slight boost over unity happening. It requires a few extra tweaks like an RF filter on the input jack, but the results are worth it and actually make the JH-F1 Fuzz Face a pretty decent sounding fuzz after with a more useable range of Volume adjustment. While I was in there we decided to go with a DMT series polyester film and foil 100nF cap for C3 to the Volume control input, to get a slight bit more warmth than the stock metalized polyester cap offers. The internal 1k volume boost trim pot replaces VR2 on the board as a fixed value resistor with lugs 1 and 3 connected in VR2’s place and wiper lug 2 connected to the input of C3. The RF filter is just a simple 1k resistor from the input jack to the footswitch with a 100pF cap to ground after the 1k resistor. I like the Volume Boost trim set at about 638ohms between R4 and C3. The VR1 bias trim for Q1 underneath the pcb is adjusted to about 10.68k
