Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the creative process.

Like most artists, I’ve thought about quitting—more times than I can count.
I’ve had people tell me it’s a waste of time.
I’ve watched incredibly talented artists walk away because “it’s never going to go anywhere.”

And I’ve asked myself: What’s the point?
Why keep making things? What if none of it really matters?

I’ve wrestled with that for years.
But here’s what I keep coming back to: creating makes me feel alive.
It breaks me open. It forces me to build resilience.
You fail ten times, maybe twenty—but then something clicks.
And that moment of breakthrough? That’s where growth lives.

The creative process mirrors healing.
It mimics what it means to be human: trying, failing, showing up anyway.
It’s not really about who buys the art, or where it ends up (though that’s always nice).
It’s about how it makes me feel.
It’s about play. Presence. Remembering who I am.

I came across this quote recently, and it stuck with me:

“When nothing seems to help, I go look at the stonecutter hammering away at his rock.
Perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it.
Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two,
and I know that it was not that last blow that did it—but all that had gone before.” -Jacob Ribs

So I’m holding on to that.
Every strike matters.
Breakthrough is coming.
