…Just a series vegetarian/vegan thoughts after a disappointing interaction at our favorite pizza place last weekend. A place we go all the time and they know us by name 😣…over a salad that doesn’t come with chicken but that they put chicken on, then got mad at me for not just eating it.

When I say I don’t eat meat:
🧡Sometimes I’m met with a “good for you!”
🧡Sometimes an eye roll or judgement.
🧡Sometimes with unsolicited advice, “Are you getting enough protein though?” (protein comes from plants).
🧡Sometimes surprise or “I could never do that.”
🧡Occasionally with a “me too!” (yay for veggie friends).
🧡Sometimes they treat you like a burden.
🧡Sometimes I’m met with anger, jokes or insults.
🧡But mostly (thankfully) I’m met with curiosity & interest.

Food is powerful. Lifestyle is more than diet. People are imperfect but there’s no reason to be a vicious vegan or mean meat eater.

Shine brightly my friends. Don’t apologize for who you are, what’s important to you, or for living a life by your design. And if you need a friend on your veggie journey, 👉🏼 I’m your gal.

Today marks 13 years since we lost our big brother and best friend. Our guy who willingly and effortlessly stepped in as “Dad” at a young age (and more times than he should have had to but wouldn’t have it any other way bc he truly was the best). June 24 was the worst day of my life and each year it sneaks up on me yet has me in all types of moods both right before and after... that’s the thing about grief, it’s kind of a forever thing.

This year though, it’s just a little bit easier bc I’m back in Michigan and finally (after a long ass year) spending time with friends and family who miss him too or who’ve helped me on my grief journey. We’re also currently staying at a lake house and it’s giving me all the happy memories of our childhood on the water. We miss him every day and on this day, I’m doing the only thing that will get you to “open land”: stepping into my feeling how ever strong the current.

❤️ Find out what makes you happy and do more of that.
💛 Love yourself.
💚 Vent about your joy, not just your problems.
💙 Be kind to yourself and others.

I THINK I NEED TO PUSH!
..Recently on the blog I shared Flamingo’s birth story because you know what they say, if you don’t write it down you might forget. With my daughter, her entrance into the world felt both like it took forever and happened in an instant. She arrived on Mother’s Day during a pandemic and here’s her story or link in bio 🎀

🙋🏼‍♀️ Hi, still here. I’ve just been resting, well mostly celebrating my daughter and myself, and running my kids here there and everywhere, but sometimes resting. I’ve also really trying to figure out what exactly I want to do with and how I want to do it. I think ultimately it boils down to having more childcare so it might be a minute until things really get going but I’m not quitting (FYI more content on Instagram). Big ideas and good things are ahead bc at the end of the day, I’m still here to help women in biz & at home, normalize grief/be your friend on the journey, and promote people by sharing their stories and resources.

If you’re here and following along, thank you. And wherever you’re at today, if you got out of bed, faced the day, did your best or just took a rest, I’m proud of you! 👏🏼✨🧡

On ☁️ 9️⃣ because of the women who surprised and celebrated me this past weekend (and my main squeeze that helped make it all happen and cared for all the kiddos so us gal pals could literally party, dance and laugh all night long)! Women who have loved and lifted me up for years, through many chapters, hard times and big moments. Gosh, it’s true what “they” say, God doesn’t give you the people you want, he gives you the people you need... but, he also gives you the power of choice and it’s up to you to choose who you surround yourself with, who is temporary or needs to go, and who you hang onto for dear life. Who you love and continue to choose to be in your life every damn day, through every damn thing, because life is meant for adventures and friendships. My wish for you is that you too have humans like these in your life and that you find people who lift you higher.

🌱A Vegetarian/Plant Based Journey🌱 I don’t eat land animals and haven’t for over two years now. But, my journey didn’t start in the usual ways or how you might assume. The Instagram poll results didn’t show much interest but I hope you know I’m not perfect (I’m not even there yet on being vegan). So, if you’re curious at all, on the blog I’ve detailed how it started and how it’s going... @ christinasreine.org or link in bio

▪️March 2020: The boys were sent home for what we thought was a few weeks (turned into the rest of the school year).

▪️May 2020: Little sis joined the party.

▪️August 2020: We moved across the country from Michigan to California.
▪️August 24, 2020: Trout started first grade online with hopes we would have some in-person learning by October, not knowing anyone or what the inside of his school looked like. Batman started “mommy & me” pre school.

▪️October 2020: Santa Clara moved to the Orange tier and our school was given the green light to open (they did not).

▪️December 2020: We we’re supposed to start some in-person learning for the phase-in (we didn’t). The school decided against it (full distance learning resumed).

▪️January 2021: Batman began in-person school with a private nature based program (between managing online school and a baby, I couldn’t give him the best learning environment and he needed something for him and something that got him outside more).

▪️March 2021: We officially hit a year+ of online school.

▪️April 2021: Our school finally started the phase-in plan with two half days a week. And, we started Little League (yay)!

▪️May 2021: We’re now in-school 5 days a week (full days M,T,TR,F half on W). Yay, yay, yay!!!
..I am so damn proud of these boys, especially our first grader. They might not fully understand it but they’ve given up a lot, rolled with the punches and done their part (and then some) largely for the protection of adults. We might be rusty this week as things get a lot busier but when I find myself growing impatient with them (like today), I try to remember all of the above, apologize and take it easier on them (and myself).

So, busyness - I see you. Let’s go!

100% this!!! I don’t know who said it originally you’ll hear me preach this over and over again.
..Alright so here’s the truth, the poll results indicated hardly anyone was interested in my vegetarian/vegan striving lifestyle... but I’m going to share it with you anyway😜 (later today on the blog). Why? Because they say you should share your passions with others, and try to do something about the things that break your heart. Although my journey didn’t start because of my love for animals, or how deeply I care about the planet, it’s one of those “the more you know the better you do” type of things. The more I know, the more my heart breaks. Also, quarantine about broke us all and really sucked... While you absolutely don’t want to hear this (and I get it - I don’t either), as long as human kind keeps terrorizing the ocean, invading animal territory and destroying habitats for mass farming and more *stuff*, we’re going to face pandemic after pandemic. It’s not a leap, the two things are directly related.

However, I’m not saying (and have never said) everyone needs to be a shining perfect vegan. In fact, I’m not. I’m striving for 80% vegetarian/plant based, 10% vegan and (maybe) 10% pescatarian. really did a number on me 😭. We do however need more regulation, everyone limiting their meat consumption and caring more about the planet we call home. If you’re with me, drop any animal emoji below 🐷👇🏼.
