Embroidery, horse and cart rides, and the traditional wool coat in Maramureș yesterday! We are experiencing the differences in landscape, textiles, clothing, cuisine in this area vs. Kalotaszeg. And now today is the last full day of the tour already! It goes by too fast. ❤️

The 2026 Transylvania + Budapest tour has begun! Today, we visited the Néprajzi Múzeum in Budapest for an introduction to Hungarian embroidery and Kalotaszeg clothing, textiles, and írásos with curator Fülöp Hajnalka and Bazsó Borka Eszter translating. The first shows items in a 20th century clean or best room from the most highly decorated area of Kalotaszeg. The museum has incredible permanent display of clothing, household, and decorative objects. A beautiful start with a great group of women! Tomorrow, we leave early for Transylvania!

Modern Monograms and Stitched Text online workshop is back again on June 14 from 10am - 12pm PT/ 1 - 3pm ET/ 7 - 9pm CET! Learn to stitch a traditional monogram and try out some alternative stitches. Learn the history of monograms, how people have “signed” their textiles in folk traditions, and find inspiration in contemporary artists using language and asemic (nonsense) writing in their work!
