American Doctor starts playing in theaters today in Davis, Albany, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, etc. Directed by Poh Si Teng, three American doctors volunteer at besieged hospitals in Gaza, before returning home to fight for their patients and colleagues left behind.

J-SEI will host a free screening of Nisha Balaram's MEALS THAT MADE US on Sunday, August 16 at 11am, 2pm, and 4pm (with tickets still available for 4pm showing) as part of their Sunday Funday event. This CAAM-produced documentary series features Asian American chefs, farmers, and community leaders throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, who use food as a way to connect to heritage, each other, and the future. Balaram and one of the subjects of the series, Chef Yuji Ishikata, will be in attendance for a Q&A afterwards. Please be sure to RSVP ahead of time.

See a free screening of THE AUNTIE SEWING SQUAD RESISTANCE PLAYBOOK, directed by Valerie Soe. This CAAM-funded documentary was a hit at CAAMFest. Now it’s back in San Francisco at the Koret Auditorium on Saturday, August 15 at 1:00 PM.

When a mask shortage during the COVID-19 pandemic leads performance artist, Kristina Wong, into creating a grassroots collective of BIPOC women to volunteer to fill that gap, it grew into a movement to protect those at risk, all while navigating systemic inequalities.

The CAAM-funded documentary AMERICAN DOCTOR is playing at the Festival July 30. This verité documentary directed by follows physicians of Jewish, Palestinian, and Zoroastrian descent as they risk everything to enter Gaza hospitals on a humanitarian mission.

Audiences gathered at CAAMFest for the screening of SEAT AT THE TABLE.

Directed by Sarita Khurana (2020 CAAM Fellow), and Yoav Attias, the documentary follows the 2024 campaigns of South Asian American candidates including Nabeela Syed, Ravi Bhalla, and Dr. Amish Shah. Set against the backdrop of the 2024 election cycle and the historic presidential campaign of Kamala Harris, the film explores the rise of South Asian political leadership, and grassroots organizing efforts.

Following the screening, audiences joined a Q&A moderated by our Talent Development & Special Projects Director, Sapana Sakya, featuring director Sarita Khurana, co-director Yoav Attias, Illinois State Representative Nabeela Syed, former Arizona State Representative Amish Shah, community organizer Harini Krishnan, editor Sunita Prasad, and executive producer RJ Narang.
