Since 2002, Un-Scripted Theater Company® has staged over forty productions in a range of genres and styles: stage plays, musicals, narrative long-form, improv comedy, and theatrical experiments. Un-Scripted Theater Company® is known

for improvised theater: shows in which our improvisors, using audience suggestions, strive to create plays or musicals that are sometimes serious, sometimes comic, with fully improvised dialogue, songs, and dances created right before your eyes. Our Saturday late night show, “DASH,” mixes games and scenes into a seamless, spontaneous and continuously morphing spectacle of excitement and laughs. Over the course of this hour-long show, the cast incorporates audience ideas and suggestions throughout, from the ridiculous to the hilarious. Anything can (and probably will) happen at DASH, but all things comedy and chaos are pretty safe bets. All improvised stage performances, from “Whose Line is it Anyway?” style games, to fast-paced comedic scenes based on audience suggestions, like “DASH,” to a full-length improvised play, are based on common principles of acceptance, cooperation, and narrative storytelling.

Bay Area Musical Improv is excited to announce we're hosting a summer intensive series with instructors from Los Angeles right here in the Bay Area!

LA to the Bay will feature two 6-hour intensive musical improv workshops taught by the legendary Shulie Cowen and Tara Copeland! Join Shulie in Oakland on Saturday June 20th or Tara in San Francisco on Sunday, July 12th.

Registration for both workshops opens this coming Tuesday at 12:00pm.

Happy late Un-scripted's birthday, everyone!

On International Woman's Day 2003, the Un-Scripted Theater Company had our very first performance with our Spring Sing and Improv Carnival Gala. We've had so many performances since then. Of course not much is officially happening as Un-Scripted these days, but there are still some things going on.

Molly and Olivia have been doing amazing things with the Bay Area Musical Improv Festival. They just had a series of classes that sold out within days of them being announced, and applications are open now for the 2026 festival happening in October.

Our very own founder Christian Utzman is going to start streaming over on our Youtube Channel with a livestream of a D&D game some Twitch Streamers have put together for us. The first broadcast of which will be this Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 7pm.

We are thrilled to announce that applications for the 2026 Bay Area Musical Improv Festival are now OPEN!

We're coming back for a third year to the All Out Comedy Theater in Oakland, CA the weekend of October 22 - 25, 2026 and we’d love for YOU to be a part of it!

Building on the success of our last two events, this year's festival will feature a mix of shows, workshops and jams over four days, including an opening pizza party and a closing party with live-band improvised karaoke!

There are currently two applications open at this time: One to apply to perform at the festival and one to apply to teach a workshop. Both applications can be found on the Bay Area Musical Improv Festival website, linked in our bio!

The deadline for both applications is June 1, 2026.

We're excited to announce that this spring we'll be hosting our first ever Weekend of Workshops in San Francisco!

This is a weekend dedicated to showcasing and fostering local teachers, offering musical improvisers the chance to learn about unique topics from our own local talent pool!

Applications to teach are now open through January 11th!

Anyone is welcome to apply, regardless of experience-level, however due to space and time limitations, we likely won't be able to accept all applicants.

Have a topic you think you're uniquely suited to teach? Something that local musical improvisers would benefit from? Submit your application!

Join us on Sunday, January 11 in San Francisco for an evening of post-holiday revelry, treats and made up carols.

This is a totally FREE event for any and all musical improvisers and/or musical improv enthusiasts. Come make new friends from the community, connect with old friends, and join us in improvising some never-before-heard (and never-to-be-heard-again) holiday carols!

We'll provide hot drinks (hot cocoa, apple cider and tea) and if you have a favorite holiday treat (perhaps a favorite winter-time cookie or snack or drink) feel free to bring it! And if you aren't able to bring a treat, no worries, come as you are.
