"From Art To Enterprise: Building a Creative Business"

Artist and entrepreneur Erin Minckley, founder of Relativity Textiles, joins us to talk about how she transformed her art practice into an internationally recognized wallpaper and textile brand.

Erin will share what she’s learned about turning original artwork into marketable products, navigating manufacturing, building a sustainable creative business, and creating new revenue streams from your work. She’ll also talk about how her own practice has evolved from selling her designs to helping other artists monetize theirs—and how to build a profitable business without losing sight of the creative work that started it all.

The Art of Getting Noticed: PR for Artists

Creating great work is only part of building a sustainable art practice. Getting that work seen by the right people matters too.

PR and marketing expert Molly Blaisdell joins us for a practical conversation about how artists can increase their visibility, tell their stories more effectively, and create opportunities for press and promotion.

Drawing on 25 years of experience, Molly will discuss what artists can realistically do themselves—from pitching media and promoting exhibitions to building relationships—as well as when it makes sense to hire a PR professional. She’ll also explain what a publicist can and can’t do for you, and how to get the most from that relationship.

Whether you’re building a business around your work, trying to reach a wider audience, or both, these two conversations are designed to give you practical ideas you can put to work in your own practice.

When we launched Startup Studio Insight, I honestly wasn't sure how artists would respond.

Over the past year, I'd heard the same request over and over from Startup Studio members: "I love the salons, but I want deeper critique. More accountability. More sustained conversations about my work."

So we built it.

I'm thrilled to share that our first 12-week cohort filled almost immediately, confirming what many of us already suspected: artists are hungry for thoughtful, rigorous feedback and genuine community.

Because of the response, we've opened Session 2, beginning August 5.
Startup Studio Insight isn't just another critique group. It's a small cohort (maximum 9 artists) designed to foster meaningful dialogue, accountability, and momentum through:

• Six live Zoom sessions over 12 weeks
• Three peer critiques
• Three critiques with accomplished contemporary artists and arts professionals
• Two opportunities for every participant to present their work

Guest critics: Cindy Lisica Gallery, Carrie Lederer and Hannah Sloan

I've spent much of my career teaching artists, and one thing I've learned is that some of the biggest breakthroughs don't happen alone in the studio. They happen through thoughtful conversations with people who are willing to look closely, ask good questions, and offer honest, constructive feedback.

Last Friday at Startup Art Fair San Francisco, The Living Archive opened with a powerful runway experience.

An immersive show celebrating regenerative design, cultural heritage, and the beauty of repair, featuring designers transforming upcycled textiles and heirloom materials into deeply personal, wearable art. More than a runway, the show was an open invitation to connect with the work, the makers, and the ideas shaping a more thoughtful future for fashion.
