Now that you're getting 30 amazing profiles, what does it look like to bring these stories into the classroom? 🤔

One place to start is simply asking: What problem was this person trying to solve? 🌏✊🏽 From there, students can begin to connect those issues to their own communities and think about what change could look like where they are.

In honor of and the work happening on the ground across the country, we’re excited to share a FREE downloadable ELA lesson for grades 4–5: “Diving into the 10 Point Program.” ✊🏾📚

Created by the in 1966, the 10 Point Program outlined demands for justice, equality, and self-determination. It addressed issues of freedom, police brutality, housing, education, and more within Black communities —- issues that are still deeply relevant today. Inspired by these calls for radical change, many other communities went on to create their own 10 Point Programs.

With an emphasis on self-reflection and civic engagement, this lesson meets California English Language Arts standards. While designed for upper elementary students, it can easily be adapted for middle school, high school, and beyond... because the relevance of this history doesn’t stop at any grade level.

Hi! Founder, Katie here👋🏽 I wanted to share a few updates with y’all as we find ourselves at the end of January. It’s been a minute since we’ve been active with REALSOUL, and somehow the world has continued to move (rather quickly) without us. Since our last post, our country has continued to face an intense wave of intimidation from federal agents, the erasure of marginalized histories, lack of humanity from our political leaders, censorship, and more.

And yet, like so many moments in history, we continue to find beauty in small, grounding ways. In Minneapolis, we’ve felt love and empathy from neighbors even amid heightened political divides. In the US, communities are banding together against corporate greed and violence. Furthermore, across the world, people and leaders are standing up in the face of fascism and tyranny. And away from social media for several months, I’ve felt a renewed sense of responsibility and urgency, learning and re-learning how to care for someone beyond just myself.

If you’re in need of healing and stillness, I hope you’re able to take time for yourself and for those around you. As for me, I’m feeling deeply inspired to continue this soulful journey, working toward a better world for my newest little bundle of joy.

2026, here we come 🔥

Is school back in action? Are you trying to figure out ways to support our global community? 🍉

An Ode to the Olive Tree is a free, lower elementary lesson plan centered around “Hilwa’s Gifts” by Safa Suleiman, a beautiful story of Palestinian love, land, and legacy.

In collaboration with the writer herself, students explore the deep cultural significance of the olive tree 🌳 They’ll engage in a sensory activity, reflect on the role of plants in their own cultures, and make meaningful connections between land, identity, and family traditions. This lesson is perfect for summer camp sessions, classrooms, and more!
