Hi J-Sei community members! Come join us to meet special guest Nakamura Gankyō (aka Bandō Hirohichirō), the first American-born professional kabuki actor and teacher, who will be talking about the art and tradition of kabuki. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and having a lively group discussion on the movie KOKUHO and the art of kabuki. This event will take place on Thursday, April 16th at 4:00pm. Thank you everyone who virtually attended Kyo no Kai’s “Hatsu Mai: the first dance of the New Year”.

Nagauta "Oharame/ Kuni-iri Yakko" is one of the specialties of the Bando repertory.

The first half describes a woman who comes into the city to sell twigs for firewood. The second half describes a yakko, or foot man. The yakko's job is to announce to the people that the lord's procession is about to pass and to clear the roads.
