For more than 40 years, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus (SFGMC) has served as an international standard bearer for a powerful mix of extraordinary musical excellence and mission-driven activism. Founded in 1978, it was the first choral organization to courageously proclaim its orientation in its name and is credited with helping start the LGBTQ choral movement that now spans the entire globe, galvanizing and changing the course of LGBTQ history.

To say “I will always love you” would be an understatement after this past weekend. ❤️

From Dolly’s songs and stories to the joy of sharing them with all of you at the Curran Theatre, this weekend was one we’ll remember for a long time.

We were also thrilled to celebrate our CEO by proclaiming June 13, 2026 as Christopher Verdugo day, as well as welcome our incoming CEO, Lane Sugata, to the Chorus family as they joined us onstage for this special occasion!

Thank you all for being part of another incredible season!!!

Still thinking about last weekend at the Green Music Center. ✨

Getting to bring “Dolly!“ to such a stunning venue was a joy, and hearing Dolly Parton’s music fill that hall was so special. We always love getting to share our shows with the Rohnert Park community and can’t wait to do it all again this weekend at the Curran Theatre. 🤠

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at tech rehearsal and performance day. 💜

9 to 5, but (somehow) make it even gayer. 🌈✨

A little taste of Dolly! A Pride Show from dress rehearsal at the Green Music Center in Rohnert Park today!

Next stop: the Curran Theatre next weekend. ❤️

We’re thrilled to announce that nationally recognized arts, philanthropy, and nonprofit leader Lane Sugata will become SFGMC’s next Chief Executive Officer, beginning August 24, 2026. Lane succeeds Chris Verdugo, who is stepping down after ten years of leadership. Over the coming months, Chris will support the transition and help ensure continuity as SFGMC prepares for its 49th season.

We are sharing this news at the start of San Francisco’s Pride Month celebrations—a fitting moment to look toward the future of our organization.

Lane brings deep roots in the Bay Area’s arts, cultural, and LGBTQ communities. Currently a Senior Program Officer at the Ford Foundation, they have overseen more than $270 million in grants advancing creativity, civic engagement, and social justice. A former student at the San Francisco Ballet and graduate of UC Berkeley, Lane combines national leadership experience with a lifelong connection to the Bay Area.

“The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus is a powerful force for artistry, community, and LGBTQ visibility,” said Sugata. “I’m honored to join this extraordinary organization and excited to help shape its next chapter.”

We can’t wait to welcome Lane to SFGMC and The Chan National Q***r Arts Center and are excited for all that lies ahead under their leadership.

Wishing everyone a Happy from SFGMC! Be proud, be brave, be your true self unabashedly, and never forget that Pride is celebration now because it began as a protest. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Here’s a throwback to our very first Pride parade in 1979! (The haircuts have definitely changed. The length of the shorts…not so much.)
