We’re thrilled to announce that nationally recognized arts, philanthropy, and nonprofit leader Lane Sugata will become SFGMC’s next Chief Executive Officer, beginning August 24, 2026. Lane succeeds Chris Verdugo, who is stepping down after ten years of leadership. Over the coming months, Chris will support the transition and help ensure continuity as SFGMC prepares for its 49th season.
We are sharing this news at the start of San Francisco’s Pride Month celebrations—a fitting moment to look toward the future of our organization.
Lane brings deep roots in the Bay Area’s arts, cultural, and LGBTQ communities. Currently a Senior Program Officer at the Ford Foundation, they have overseen more than $270 million in grants advancing creativity, civic engagement, and social justice. A former student at the San Francisco Ballet and graduate of UC Berkeley, Lane combines national leadership experience with a lifelong connection to the Bay Area.
“The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus is a powerful force for artistry, community, and LGBTQ visibility,” said Sugata. “I’m honored to join this extraordinary organization and excited to help shape its next chapter.”
We can’t wait to welcome Lane to SFGMC and The Chan National Q***r Arts Center and are excited for all that lies ahead under their leadership.
