ened May 24-26, 2012, at three different locations in the city, garnering both local and national attention on its very first outing. Popdose named SF Offside the "New Festival to Watch" in 2012, saying of its creation, "It was a bold and brilliant move, capturing a moment in time where, much like during the age of rent parties in the Harlem Renaissance and the rise of avant garde jazz in New York in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the hungry sounds of insanely talented musicians trying to make ends meet during a flailing economy are ripe for a new audience." NPR named SF Offside one of "Six Creative Presenters Finding New Audiences for Jazz." Untapped SF described the inaugural SF Offside Festival as "a brilliant cross section of the Bay Area’s thriving jazz scene," adding "This year’s Offside Festival could not have been more successful in demonstrating the vibrancy of the community, drawing a healthy crowd each night to witness the depth of jazz that is often overlooked."
