DanceFAR's 2021 Digital Season
In light of COVID-19, DanceFAR is unable to present its scheduled 2020 performance and after party due to the live performance ordinance and safety protocols in effect in the City of San Francisco. In response to this, DanceFAR will present the performance in a digital format, featuring archival footage of participating dance companies, as well as exclusive intervie
ws and dance films curated for the online fundraiser. The event will highlight the efforts of those behind the scenes including stage management, wardrobe, crew, choreographers, etc., to encompass the tireless and collaborative effort needed to produce a live performance. DanceFAR has chosen The Actors Fund as its 2021 beneficiary in acknowledgment of the uncertain future of performing artists and entertainment professionals. Founded in 1882, The Actors Fund is a national human services organization meeting the needs of the entertainment community with a unique understanding of the challenges involved in a life in the arts. Services include emergency financial assistance, affordable housing, health care and insurance counseling, senior care, secondary career development, and more. More than five million Americans make their livelihoods in the arts and cultural sector. Due to COVID-19, cancellations and closures are taking place at thousands of arts organizations and performance venues across the country. According to the August 2020 economic impact study conducted by Americans for the Arts, it is estimated the arts and cultural sector will take a $9.1 billion dollar loss, and only 59% of arts organizations are confident that they will survive the impacts of COVID-19. The pandemic continues to have a devastating impact on America’s art sector and with no resolution in the foreseeable future.
