Nancy Toomey Fine Art is a venue in San Francisco for established and emerging artists whose work exemplifies the innovation of contemporary art while advancing the standards of its quality. The artists represented are a heterogeneous mix, hailing from all parts of the globe and embracing a variety of disciplines. Through its exhibitions, the gallery intends to pursue the discussion of what is rel

evant to the art process today, to encourage the development of artists, and to foster the myriad techniques and concepts that identify the contemporary art market. The shifting style and tone of our shows defies easy categorization, but our shared priorities of artistic investigation and quality mark our exhibitions as a whole. The gallery has been in it’s current location since 1997 and is owned by Nancy Toomey.

Love when an artist commission comes to fruition! Congrats, Chris Natrop, and thank you, Laura Grigsby!

Polished stainless steel and acrylic

This installation is part of the artists ongoing practice of incorporating aspects of past cut paper ephemera into new sculpture projects. Here the original cut paper drawings were made by Natrop in San Francisco almost twenty years ago. They have been tweaked and distorted to embody an enhanced sensibility, an apparition of bygone memories. Then they are cut from thin sheets of mirrored stainless steel, painted and hover on the wall like cloud formations.

The sculpture creates a chiaroscuro of reflection and prismatic shadowing. They simultaneously capture moments in time from the past and the present moment.

Natrop exhibits his work internationally and it is included in the prestigious Art in Embassies program. He holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and was an affiliate artist at the Headlands Center for the Arts in 2006.
