Smuin pushes the boundaries of contemporary ballet within a distinctly American style, combining classical ballet training, technique, and artistry with uncommon physicality and expression. Smuin offers audiences an experience of ballet that is entertaining, evocative, and original. d performing arts companies of international acclaim, performing to sold-out houses on U.S. Michael Smuin’s singular philosophy to create pieces, which merge the diverse vocabularies of classical ballet and contemporary dance has served as the Company’s touchstone since its inception. Since 2007, Artistic Director Celia Fushille’s vision includes sustaining and increasing the Company’s reputation for presenting compelling and innovative repertoire, as well as attracting new audiences to the medium. The Company continues to showcase Michael Smuin’s work, while enriching its impressive repertoire with contemporary choreographic voices, commissioning world premieres and collaborating with inventive choreographers from around the world. More than 30,000 people enjoy Smuin performances each season, performing more than 60 shows during its regular season in San Francisco, Walnut Creek, Mountain View, and Carmel. Looking for studio rentals this summer? We’ve got you covered! Compared to the bustle of April and May, June is a fairly quiet month at Smuin. The dancers are taking some well-deserved time off and we’re doing a bit of early summer cleaning around the studios, making repairs and getting things in order before rehearsals resume in July.

Smuin Center for Dance is located at 1830 17th Street in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. Our building has been completely renovated to meet the needs of a dance company, including sprung floors, individually climate-controlled studios, and comprehensive audiovisual components.

“Still Falling was a multi-chaptered suite where elegance reigned supreme. Whether in solo, duets, trios, quintets or full cast expressions, every movement, every moment, was polished and refined. And it featured Seiwert’s singular way of exploring the possibilities that ballet vocabulary and technique have.” — Dance Commentary by Heather Desaulniers

Our final performances of the 25/26 season are this week! Join us at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, May 14-17 and celebrate the end of season 32! Tickets available today, link in bio.

“Inspired by the ‘plight of women in the world,’ Andi Schermoly’s Jane Doe, a world-premiere, slayed me. Gasp-inducing at times, cripplingly sad at others, alarming, reverberating and unflinching, Jane Doe packs a punch, never allowing us to believe for a moment that women are not under threat as much now, as ever.“ -Jen Norris Dance Reviews

We hope you’ll join us for our final performances of the 25/26 season, this week at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. Celebrate another fabulous season with us! Tickets available today at https://www.smuinballet.org/events/future-forward/
