Here's a really rare DJ Dan Mixtape! Dan playing live at Love Garage in San Francisco in 1992. This tape just barely meets my quality standards for posting but considering that Dan is no longer with us, I decided to remaster it and post it for his hardcore fans. Enjoy!

*THIS IS A VERY RARE RECORDING THAT WAS ABOUT A 4TH-5TH GENERATION COPY DOWN FROM THE ORIGINAL TAPE. THEREFORE, THE FIDELITY ISN'T THE BEST. WE HAD TO REMOVE ALL OF THE LAYERS OF TAPE HISS FROM MULTI-GENERATION COPIES. WE EQ'D IT THE BEST WE COULD TO MAKE IT PRESENTABLE.

Here's a fun 90's House mixtape from San Francisco's DJ Pete Avila!

Many talented DJs have helped put San Francisco on the map but none more influential than Pete Avila. He is the Bay Area's original house DJ and has helped define what the world knows as the San Francisco sound. His music speaks with reverence, fueling his image as a house music guru and advocate of spiritual house. In 1991, Pete Avila pioneered the Bay Area's first house mix show on 106 KMEL "The Underground" & went on to create "Your Mama's House" with fellow DJ David Harness & MC Foxxee. Your Mama’s House took the music industry by storm and was the first to introduce house music to the masses. At a time when hip hop and R&B dominated the airwaves, dance music was practically non-existent and a dirty word amongst industry executives who controlled the US radio market! For close to a decade, Your Mama’s House undeniably helped elevate DJ culture in the bay area but more importantly, gave many talented DJ’s and artists from around the globe a platform to promote their music and talent.

I just finished remastering this DJ Sam LaBelle mixtape. This was taken from a VHS Hi-FI recording that Josh Cheon had donated to the SFDPS archives. Thanks, Josh! A mix of 90's Vocal and Underground House. Sam was a DJ at The Detour and Toad Hall in San Francisco. He also ran Soundworks Record Store and Soundworks DJ Pool. R.I.P. Sam. Enjoy!

*This recording was taken from a VHS Hi-FI tape. There are some unavoidable very slight artifacts in the recording from recording in this format, as well as the age of the tape. VHS was once a popular way to record DJ sets before DAT tape became popular. I have cleaned up this recording the best that I could.

DJ Bobby Viteritti called me yesterday and asked me to dig in the SAN FRANCISCO DISCO PRESERVATION SOCIETY archives and repost this 5 part mixtape collection. The Balcony was located on Market St. in the late 70's/ early80's, in San Francisco.. It was the after hours spot to go to after The Trocadero Transfer closed down on the weekends. The party would continue over at The Balcony with a freshly recorded the night before reel-to-reel tape of Bobby spinning Disco at The Troc. These parts were taken from files that Bobby made to fit on CDRs. Enjoy!

Here's a really good early 80's mixtape. A mix of 80's Synth Pop, New Wave and Hi-NRG. Enjoy!

Jim said that he recorded vinyl off of 1200's Turntables with 1970's Ortofon moving coil cartridges onto his TEAC 3400 4trk Reel-To-Reel at 15 ips, then did the mixdown dubbed to cassette on a Nakamachi to make this mix.
