A first glimpse from our dress rehearsal: longing, laughter, and love in motion.

This little montage from Monday’s dress rehearsal offers a quick taste of Love, Lost and Found: F***y Hensel’s shimmering "Lockung," the comic hide-and-seek of John Farmer’s "Fair Phyllis," and the irresistible energy of Daniel Afonso’s "Na Bahia Tem."

Join us as we fall in and out of love, sigh and laugh, and experience rapture and despair. We will trace journeys of the heart through many cultures and centuries, from late Medieval England to the present day.

Alongside music by Gesualdo, Clara Schumann, Hensel, di Lasso, and Monteverdi, we’ll hear Bay Area voices Roger Nixon, Kirke Mechem, Daniel Afonso, Russell Burnham, and Allen Shearer, and share new works by this year’s Composer-in-Residence, Max Marcus, and Composer-Not-in-Residence, Peter Hilliard, along with the winning New Voices Project work by Yuri Lee.

We’re delighted to announce Yuri Lee as the winner of SFCA’s 2026 New Voices Project.

Founded in 2005, the New Voices Project is our annual competition for composers under 30, created to encourage the next generation of composers to write for chamber choir. The winner receives a cash prize, three Bay Area performances of the winning work, and a professional-quality recording.

Yuri Lee (b. 2004) is a Korean-Japanese composer and violinist based in New York whose music is shaped by vivid extra-musical ideas, memorable melodies, and a desire to spark the listener’s imagination. Her work has been recognized and performed by organizations and artists including the Orlando Philharmonic, International Contemporary Ensemble, Mivos String Quartet, Nu Deco Ensemble, and NYO-USA, and she is currently studying composition with Steve Mackey at Princeton University.

Yuri’s winning work, “I Loved You First,” is a tender three-minute setting of Christina Rossetti that reflects on love as something shared and indivisible. We’re excited to present its world premiere on our June program, LOVE, LOST AND FOUND.

Congratulations, Yuri!

Join us under the heavens' dome of stars as we explore the wonder and mystery of the Christmas story with the music of chilly nights & warm fires, of beasts in the fields and in the manger, and angels singing the mystery of Christ's birth.

For centuries the Christmas story has drawn composers back to its themes of wonder and renewal, inspiring music that feels both intimate and universal. Mystery, Magi & Mittens reaches across time to tell that story, from Renaissance masters Tye and Byrd to world premieres from our resident composers, with Poulenc’s four seasonal motets threading through a program of reflection and joy.

Let us share the spirit of the season with you. Come in from the cold and join us!
