Some genuinely good news for former President Joe Biden.

After being diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones, Biden says his radiation treatment worked as intended and his doctors have been able to control the disease. His family has also reported that his PSA level has fallen to zero.

Whatever your politics, this is the kind of news that should make people happy.

Cancer doesn’t care whether someone is a Democrat or Republican. It doesn’t care who you voted for, what television network you watch or which political arguments you’ve had online. Millions of families know exactly how frightening it is to hear that diagnosis and then wait anxiously for every test result that follows.

Biden still has a serious medical history and continues to receive care, so this shouldn’t be confused with an announcement that he has been completely cured.

But after everything he and his family have been dealing with, positive treatment results are absolutely worth celebrating.

You don’t have to like Joe Biden’s politics to wish him good health.

Some things should still be bigger than politics.

Wishing President Biden continued strength and more good news ahead.

Macklemore spoke up for Palestine on one of the biggest stages in America.

Now he’s off Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour.

According to the tour promoter, multiple upcoming venues said they would not allow concerts to go ahead with Macklemore on the lineup. Keeping him on the tour could therefore have jeopardized shows affecting hundreds of thousands of fans.

This all followed Macklemore using his performance to openly say “Free Palestine” and speak about Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Whatever your position on Israel and Palestine, this raises a much bigger question about free expression in the entertainment industry.

Artists are constantly encouraged to “use their platform” when their message is popular or politically safe. But the real test comes when they use that platform to say something powerful institutions, venues or parts of their audience strongly oppose.

Macklemore knew his position on Palestine could cost him professionally. He spoke anyway.

People are free to criticize what he said. Concertgoers are free to dislike politics being brought into a show. Venues also have legal and contractual considerations that can make these situations complicated.

But there’s no denying the consequence here.

One of America's most prominent musicians spoke publicly about Palestine, and shortly afterward, venues reportedly refused to host concerts if he remained on the lineup.

You don't have to agree with Macklemore to recognize how significant that is.

Speaking your mind is easy when there’s nothing to lose.

The real test is whether you keep speaking when there is.

A woman admits to killing her three children, and somehow parts of the internet still manage to make the husband the villain.

That is difficult to comprehend.

Whatever problems existed inside their marriage, whatever arguments they had, and whatever evidence is presented about the circumstances surrounding the case, three children lost their lives. If someone is found responsible for deliberately taking those lives, accountability for that act cannot simply be transferred to a spouse because social media finds a different narrative more emotionally satisfying.

We should absolutely examine all relevant evidence. Mental health, domestic circumstances and other factors can matter enormously when courts determine criminal responsibility and sentencing. Due process matters even in cases that provoke intense emotions.

But explanation and responsibility are not the same thing.

The internet has developed a strange habit of turning criminal cases into team sports. People choose a side, build a narrative and then reinterpret every new detail to protect the person they've already decided deserves sympathy.

Meanwhile, the victims can become almost secondary characters in their own tragedy.

Three children are gone.

A father has lost his children.

Before rushing to find somebody else to blame, maybe we should remember where the irreversible harm actually occurred.

Compassion matters. Context matters.

But accountability matters too.

Russia has banned transgender people from adopting children or becoming their legal guardians.

Now comes the question guaranteed to start an argument in America: should the United States ever do the same?

For me, the standard should be straightforward. Adoption agencies should investigate prospective parents carefully. Look at criminal history, abuse, addiction, financial and emotional stability, the safety of the home, and most importantly, whether that person is capable of giving a child the secure and loving environment they deserve.

But being transgender by itself doesn't tell you whether somebody will be a good or bad parent.

There are terrible biological parents. There are extraordinary adoptive parents. There are good and bad parents among straight people, gay people, transgender people, Christians, Muslims, atheists and virtually every other group imaginable.

Children in foster care have already experienced enough uncertainty in their lives.

They deserve rigorous safeguards, but they also deserve the opportunity to find loving families.

So judge prospective parents aggressively where it actually matters.

Are the children safe? Are they loved? Are they cared for? Are they being given stability and a real chance at a good life?

Those questions should determine who gets to adopt.

Not a political label.

President Trump says the new White House ballroom is going to be a “gift” to America and that taxpayers won’t be footing the bill.

If that is truly how the project is financed from beginning to end, then taxpayers will understandably welcome hearing that their money isn't being used for the construction.

But “no tax dollars” shouldn't be the end of the conversation.

With a project connected to the White House, the public deserves complete transparency about where every dollar comes from. Is Trump personally paying for it? Are private donors contributing? Are corporations involved? Will there be ongoing maintenance, security or operating costs that eventually fall on taxpayers?

Those aren't attacks. They're basic questions that should accompany any privately financed project involving one of America's most important public buildings.

If Trump personally pays for the ballroom and genuinely gives it to the country without taxpayers covering the construction costs, then say so clearly, document it and let the facts speak for themselves.

Presidents come and go. The White House belongs to the American people.

So if this really is a gift to America, Americans should be able to see exactly who paid for their gift—and whether there are any strings attached.

At the center of every courtroom argument, every headline and every debate on social media are real human beings whose lives were taken and a family that will never be whole again.

A husband. A father. Three innocent children.

Whatever arguments are presented in court, whatever explanations are offered, and however strongly people feel about the person accused or convicted, we should never allow the victims themselves to become an afterthought.

Too often, high-profile cases become consumed by the defendant. People debate motives, punishment, sympathy and whether the justice system got everything right. Meanwhile, the people who can no longer speak for themselves slowly disappear from the conversation.

They deserve better than that.

Their families will live with empty chairs, birthdays that will never be celebrated together, conversations that will never happen and futures that were taken away.

Justice should always be based on evidence and due process. But compassion should never become so focused on the person standing in court that we forget the people who aren't there because their lives were stolen.

Remember their names. Remember their lives. Remember the people who loved them.

Whatever else is debated, never lose sight of who suffered the irreversible loss.

They are the victims.

Never forget that.

“Any pe*****le found guilty of crimes against children should be publicly hanged.”

That is an extraordinarily severe position, and it is guaranteed to provoke strong reactions.

There should be no disagreement about the fundamental issue: sexually abusing a child is one of the most horrific crimes a person can commit. Children deserve protection, survivors deserve justice, and anyone convicted of abusing them should face serious consequences under the law.

But supporting harsh punishment and supporting public ex*****ons are two different questions.

The justice system can make mistakes. Innocent people have been wrongfully convicted of serious crimes before, and an ex*****on can never be reversed when new evidence emerges. There are also constitutional and ethical questions surrounding capital punishment, particularly the idea of turning an ex*****on into a public spectacle.

The anger behind statements like this is understandable. Crimes against children provoke an emotional response because the victims are among the most vulnerable members of society.

But justice has to be more than anger.

Investigate allegations thoroughly. Prosecute offenders aggressively. Give survivors the support they deserve. Impose serious sentences when guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

And above all, build systems that prevent children from becoming victims in the first place.

Protecting children should always be the priority—not creating a spectacle afterward.

Trump says he is prepared to cut off trade entirely with “some nations” unless the Federal Reserve lowers interest rates.

Think about that for a moment.

The Federal Reserve is supposed to make interest-rate decisions based on inflation, employment and broader economic conditions—not because foreign countries are being threatened with losing access to American trade.

And cutting off trade isn't some painless punishment that only hurts the other country.

American companies depend on imported materials and components. Farmers depend on foreign buyers. Consumers depend on global supply chains for everything from electronics and vehicles to clothing and everyday household products. Disrupting those relationships can mean higher costs, lost export markets and enormous uncertainty for businesses.

Wanting lower interest rates is understandable. Millions of Americans would love cheaper mortgages, car loans and business financing.

But threatening international trade to pressure an independent central bank is an entirely different matter.

I can't say Trump is deliberately trying to damage the country—we can't know his private intent. But Americans absolutely have the right to question whether policies like this could end up hurting the very economy they're supposedly designed to strengthen.

Economic policy shouldn't operate like a hostage negotiation.

If there's a credible case for lower rates, make that case.

But threatening to shut down trade until the Fed gives the president what he wants?

That's not economic confidence.

That's playing with an economy that millions of ordinary people depend on.

It would have been entirely reasonable for Donald Trump to look Vladimir Putin in the eye and demand an end to attacks that are killing Ukrainian civilians—children, women, elderly people and families who never asked to become part of this war.

Instead, we're hearing Trump publicly emphasize that he wants Ukraine to stop striking Russian oil infrastructure.

Think about how that sounds to Ukrainians.

Russia invaded their country. Ukrainian cities have endured years of missile and drone attacks. Families have been killed in their homes, millions have been displaced, and entire communities have been forced to live with the possibility that the next strike could arrive at any moment.

Of course, there are legitimate reasons for governments to worry about attacks on energy infrastructure. They can affect global oil markets, create environmental risks and escalate an already dangerous conflict.

But where is the same public pressure on Putin to stop attacks that endanger Ukrainian civilians?

Diplomacy shouldn't mean demanding restraint primarily from the country defending itself while treating the aggressor's behavior as something everyone simply has to accommodate.

If Trump genuinely wants to be remembered as the president who helped end this war, then use America's influence on both sides.

Ask Zelensky for restraint where appropriate.

But demand restraint from Putin too.

Russian oil infrastructure matters.

Ukrainian lives matter more.
