All Pro Wrestling extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fans of “Superstar” Bill Dundee, who has passed away at the age of 82. His son, fellow professional wrestler Jamie Dundee, announced his passing Sunday morning.
Born William Cruickshanks in Scotland and raised in Australia, Dundee began his wrestling career in the 1960s before arriving in the United States in 1974. It was in Memphis where the 5’7” Dundee became larger than life, establishing himself as one of the defining stars of one of professional wrestling’s greatest territories.
For decades, Dundee’s career was intertwined with fellow Memphis icon Jerry “The King” Lawler. Whether standing alongside one another as partners or across the ring as bitter rivals, Dundee and Lawler helped make Memphis wrestling must-see television. “Superstar” captured the AWA Southern Heavyweight Championship nine times and, alongside Lawler, twice held the AWA World Tag Team Championship.
Dundee’s contributions extended well beyond the ring, serving as a booker in Memphis and Bill Watts’ Mid-South Wrestling. His career would also take him through Jim Crockett Promotions, the USWA and WCW, where a new generation of fans came to know him as “Sir William” alongside Lord Steven Regal.
Thank you, Superstar, for all of your contributions to the game. Your toughness, charisma and larger-than-life personality helped define an era and left an everlasting mark on professional wrestling.
