Every bid, ticket, and contribution to Root Division's annual auction provides free art classes for Bay Area youth, affordable studio space for emerging artists, and the professional development opportunities artists need to thrive in San Francisco.

Root Division’s Art Auction is an amazing opportunity to support a local non-profit arts organization in San Francisco. Money raised from this event enables us to support and train artists and to teach over 1,000 students who otherwise would not receive arts education.

🌟Partnership Announcement with AURA Grace Cathedral🌟

Throughout October, a portion of ticket proceeds from AURA Grace Cathedral will directly support SOMArts. This partnership connects our communities, inviting AURA audiences to experience SOMArts' annual Día de Los Mu***os and Murphy & Cadogan exhibitions.

SOMArts exists to give them the space, mentorship, and support to shift perspectives and shape the cultural life of this city,” said Maria Jenson, Creative and Executive Director of SOMArts. “AURA fills Grace Cathedral with wonder, and this partnership extends that sense of discovery to the artists and communities we champion. Every ticket sold helps sustain the exhibitions and programs that give San Francisco’s creative community a platform to be seen, heard, and celebrated.”

 Witness Silwan (I Witness Silwan أنا شَاهِدٌ على سِلوَان), Arts Forces, and Lana Ramadan

I Witness Silwan is an international public art project in support of the resistance to the expulsion of the Palestinian residents of Silwan, occupied Jerusalem. Murals depicting the eyes of local and international leaders, activists, workers, and more, are scattered across the hills of Silwan and can be seen from miles away.

Lana Ramadan is a Syrian organizer and artist working with I Witness Silwan. With nearly a decade of experience in community organizing, Lana’s work centers storytelling, collective memory, and the power of art as a tool for advocacy and connection.

Jackie Romero is a Palestinian and Latina artist and organizer born and raised in the San Francisco/Yelamu. She has been organizing for Palestinian and collective liberation for the last five years through cultural resistance.

Madison Halaby Madison Halaby Gordon is a bookbinder, letterpress printer, papermaker, designer, and book & paper conservator living in Oakland, CA. She is compelled by the tensility of material including paper, parchment, linen, wood, and natural fibers generally — and loves making and repairing practical, fun, accessible, and well-made structures for the use and enjoyment of everyday people. Madison teaches bookbinding and letterpress courses across the Bay Area and also works as a pre-program Conservation Technician. As the descendant of a Nakba survivors, Madison has a deep rooted commitment to conserving artistic, cultural, and archival materials of Palestine and the Arab world.

🕯 Performer Announcement 🕯
Meet Las Hijas de la Madre
Las Hijas de la Madre are Amalia Ortiz (lyricist and lead singer), Errezeta (lead guitar, vocals), Lilith Tijerina (bass, vocals), Sarah Tijerina (vocals, keyboard), Dr. Kip Austin Hinton (rhythm guitar and musical direction), and Joaquin Muerte (drums).

They toured Texas, performed at the Latinx Visions Conference at University of New Mexico, and at the XII Congreso Internacional de Literatura Chicana y Estudios Latinos in Barcelona, Spain. Other notable performances include The Black and Brown Punk Fests 2025 and 2019, Luminaria 2019, University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, Northwest Vista College, San Antonio College, UTRGV Edinburg and Brownsville campuses, and Trinity University.

Las Hijas de la Madre are a q***r Chicanx feminist punk band fronted by Amalia Ortiz, American Book Award winner for Oral Literature. Las Hijas center Tejana voices and explore the correlation of Chicanx rasquachismo and the do-it-yourself ethos of punk. They radically re-envision a historically white, male expression through the lens of intersectional feminism.

Bhavani Srinivas (B. 1997, Rock Island, IL, United States) (Bhavani Srinivas) works across fiber, metals, sound, video, painting, and print to make objects and installations that shift between the registers of personal narrative, pop culture, religion, and history. Bhavani holds a BA in Art Practice from Princeton University and is currently an MFA candidate in Art Practice at UC Berkeley. They are a worker-owner of March April Studio, a community art and writing studio in Los Angeles, and they co-run Corners cutoff, a small press publishing multi-lingual projects.

Chukwudubem Ukaigwe (Chukwudubem Ukaigwe Studio) is an artist, curator, and writer. Exercising material as an experimental device for cross-examining plural themes, his interdisciplinary practice is an inquiry into semiotic dissonance. Ukaigwe participates in the creation of immersive audiovisual scapes for fecund contemplation, bringing to center facets of everyday life to generate active conceptual trans-media interconnections pertaining to global aesthetics.
On obtaining a BFA (Hons.) from the university of Manitoba in Canada, Chukwudubem has presented exhibitions and effectuated artist residencies intercontinentally.

⭐️Meet the 2026 Awardees⭐️

Lian Yung (lian_yung_art) is a San Francisco based painter that paints highly detailed work, usually depicting animals or figures meshed together with machinery and rope. Lian’s work touches on the emotions of uncertainty, but with determination. Juxtaposing these conflicting emotions, she creates works that relate to the viewer and to the current political and social climate. Lian graduated with a B.S in Mathematical and Computational Biology in 2022, and worked at a research lab at Stanford for a year after graduation. She draws inspiration from this background, and Chinese and Puerto Rican heritage.

Khadijah Morley (b. Toronto, Canada) (Khadijah Morley) is an artist and educator whose practice draws on Black feminist thought and her Jamaican heritage. Through printmaking, she blends personal narratives, Afro-Caribbean folklore, and spiritual symbolism to create images where dreams, memory, and magic converge. Her work maps connections across the Black diaspora, centering subjectivity as a counter-narrative. She has participated in residencies across North America and Japan. Her practice has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, and featured on CBC Arts.

She has shown and participated in programming at Marin Museum of Contemporary Art; Anthony Maier; Anglim Trimble, Gallery 16, Et al., BAMPFA, Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, and Minnesota Street Project. She has studied at San Francisco Art Institute and UC Berkeley, and is the founder of conventional projects, an artist-edition publication.

Leyla Jamil Rzayeva (Leyla Jamil Rzayeva) is a first generation American artist born to Azerbaijani and Russian parents. Leyla works with installation, photography, sculpture and printmaking with a focus on the Bay Area, Caucasus, and West Asia. She takes inspiration from theatrical production to explore spectatorship and internal gaze. Leyla is a Graduate Teaching Associate at San Francisco State University. Her work has been exhibited at Art/Space 114 in LA, Berkeley Art Center, Root Division, de Young Museum, Skyline College, and 500 Capp Street Spring Invitational.
