Our Story

Detour Dance is committed to the collaborative creation of invigorating and idiosyncratic performance + film.

Detour Dance’s mission is to deepen the potentiality of interdisciplinary performance and film by producing provocative and peculiar ensemble-devised works; by curating the annual San Francisco Tiny Dance Film Festival; and by hosting rigorous trainings and workshops with bold, brilliant dance and theater artists. At its core, the company centers critical inquiry, prismatic storytelling, connection, and change.

Detour Dance received the SF Weekly’s Masterminds Award in 2012, was nominated for an Isadora Duncan Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography for their 2015 work Beckon, and received the 2017 CHIME Award with Margaret Jenkins Dance Company.

Founded in 2009 by Kat Cole + Eric Garcia.
