Professor benji | zero idea presents Funkcademics, his debut EP on Vitamin1000 Recordings. Rooted in the American and UK underground scenes of years past, Zero Idea draws inspiration from the Tech-Funk movement, fusing house-inflected sound palettes with techno tempos.

The EP lays out its thesis through sampled horns, guitar licks, strings, and fizzy basslines. Included on the project is NYC’s Darian Detroit-inspired reinterpretation of the title track, complete with sizzling 909 programming and soulful keys.

Funkcademics is set to release August 27. Track snippets are available on SoundCloud and preorders are available on Bandcamp now!

Forward Forward, Faster Faster 🏃💨

For the fifth release on Vitamin1000 Recordings, we warmly welcome resident speed demon Clearcast ☁️ presenting their latest single “Again… but Faster”. With standout performances at the SF stop of Fred Again’s USB002 tour, Keep Hush, and Lightning In A Bottle already under their belt, and a highly anticipated Portola debut on the horizon, it’s no surprise that Clearcast is one to watch 💫

While space travel may not be in Clearcast’s future, ‘Again... but Faster’ sure evokes the feeling one might experience entering hyperspace. Clearcast shares, “Again... but Faster sits in the minimal end of modern UKG. Sparse, rolling and hypnotic, this tune has been a mainstay in my sets for a few years now, and I’m glad it’s finally found a home with my Vitamin1000 family.”

On the flip-side, benji | zero idea takes ‘Again… but Faster’ into tech-y territory with his Even Faster Dub. The remix’s title is paradoxical in nature, as he meticulously builds anticipation before the track really kicks into overdrive. The back half shows off his signature funky, syncopated synth work, and his pension for playing with tension and release really shines.

Their knack for sound design and texture is on display here, while not relinquishing what makes a club UKG track sing—snappy, swinging percussion over a sparkling wobbly bassline. For the fourth release on Vitamin1000 Recordings, we warmly welcome Brianna 🦚, presenting her tense, club-focused four-tracker titled Nerve Ending 🧬⚡️

The project includes standout cuts such as “Dirt Devil”, a grinding, frenzied peak-time offering fabricated with swirling, abrasive textures over a tech house laced low-end groove and the title track “Nerve Ending” introducing the EP with its most confrontational moment, rhythmically insistent broken techno cut with a metallic edge.

From Brianna, “Nerve Ending represents endurance, growth and sheer will power… this exertion is meant to be felt and channeled, whether introspectively, or on the dance floor, unapologetically.”

We wholeheartedly agree this project successfully captures just that.
