The Box Shop

The Box Shop The Box Shop is a communal art and maker space founded by industrial artist Charles Gadeken for Bay area artists in San Francisco.

Our focus is metal and industrial arts. An eclectic community of artists, makers, and collectives of various sorts, from hobbyist to professional. Many are associated with the Burning Man arts community.

55 studio spaces - $500 (upper) and $600 (lower)

The legendary Heavy Petting Zoo ( ) & Flaming Lotus Girls ( ) combine forces for their annual Mutant Zoo: Feathers & Fur: a night of dancing that continues late with silent disco and more.

Last weekend over 1,000 intrepid puzzlers descended upon The Box Shop seeking an enigmatic figure known as “Percy.”
This free month-long scavenger hunt, Pursuit, was created by 15 friends to “make mischief,” sending inquisitive searchers on a race to solve mysteries across the city at locales including The Box Shop. The hunt is still on, so go to sfpursuit.org to try the latest missions - though of course we can’t predict where it will take you!

Exit Through The Box Shop - a few weeks later, and we’re still thinking about this night.

Opulent Temple 🔥 DJs. Fire from the Flaming Lotus Girls. Rides on the giant animatronic Tauntaun. BB gun gallery. Cowboy Girl at the bar with Bambam the chicken supervising. emilyskips spinning on her lyra suspended from the forklift. Interactive art galore.

More than 500 of you came and made Exit Through The Box Shop one of our greatest parties yet, while also helping us raise funds toward our new home. You all proved once again that there’s nothing quite like a Box Shop party.

Keep your eyes out for our final events at 951 Hudson before we move in the fall.
