In less than a year Nintendo’s “variable pricing” policy for Switch 2 games went from a joke to something actually helping fans save money. Good job Nintendo!

Nintendo’s recent price adjustment for future Switch 2 games gives people more choice in getting games physical or digital at different prices. They have a great opportunity to give their existing software library a boost by applying the new pricing more broadly, but they probably won’t for reasons that only make sense to them.

Many people have suggested that Nintendo raised the price of the Switch 2 because of pressure from investors. However, from our direct experience working there, that doesn’t really line up with how we saw the company thinking about its investors, for better or worse.

Many people (ourselves included) were surprised that Nintendo returned to Star Fox 64 once again with the new Star Fox game for Switch 2. Looking back though, they told us this was always their plan until the series made it big.
