There is nothing quite like a mid-week record release show to remind you that the East Bay underground doesn’t care about your Friday morning work schedule.

This Thursday night, June 4th, Thee Stork Club is hosting a massive release party for East Bay band Marbled Eye. They’re celebrating their new six-song EP, Forever, out on Digital Regress. If you’ve been tapped in since the beginning, you know their formula: deadpan vocals, hyper-linear rhythms, and tangled, angular guitars that hit like a cross between The Fall and Total Control.

And because an album release this good deserves a proper party, the rest of the bill is exceptionally well-curated.

First up is Sympathy Flowers. Featuring former members of Adrenochrome and Ötzi, these Oakland anarcho-punks combine heavy, danceable death-rock textures with the kind of chaotic, high-energy live set that makes you want to throw yourself into a wall.

Joining them are Animal Planet, who are best known for their jagged live energy and their killer Cow Tools Demo 2026 they dropped last year. Plus, everyone’s favorite eclectic selector, DJ Sly Ida B, will be spinning choice cuts between sets to keep the vibe appropriately weird.

If you want to catch a snapshot of what’s going down in the East Bay punk scene right now, skip your bedtime and get to Thee Stork Club this Thursday.

That’s why this is White Crate’s Show of the Week.

For a long time, the narrative around San Francisco was that its creative soul had been flattened—by tech, by pandemic isolation, by years of artist exodus. But if you’ve stepped into a crowded DIY venue lately, you know something different is happening.

The city is getting loud again. Just quietly. 🔊✨

For our latest Special Feature, Bird Cleary went on tour with SF shoegaze outfit Misandrist to profile a band that came together entirely by accident (via sidewalks, Hinge matches, and Reddit posts) and is now packing local venues shoulder-to-shoulder. From hospital-visit panic attacks to sidewalk shows in the pouring rain, their story is proof that a beautiful, collaborative warmth has returned to the underground scene. It’s less about “networking” and more about a new wave of local artists choosing to gather and show up for each other.

Want to experience the community yourself? Catch Misandrist live at these upcoming dates:

🗓️ Saturday, July 25th @ Great American Music Hall for Soundwall Music Fest!

If you’ve been paying attention to the local scene lately, you already know there’s a serious wave of youthful energy bubbling up in the darker, heavier corners of Bay Area alternative rock.

Case in point: this Saturday, May 30th, Kilowatt is hosting a massive local showcase featuring starbelliedbug, Big Dog Mastiff, and Misandrist. It’s a fundraiser for the Soundwall Music Fest, serving as the perfect, all-local preview of the main festival happening this July at the Great American Music Hall.

Leading the charge is starbelliedbug, a noisy SF dream-rock quartet that started as a living room duo before expanding last year. They’re actively paying homage to the 90s US and UK shoegaze scenes—think wispy vocals, dreamy guitar tones, and heavy drums inspired by the likes of Drop Nineteens and Hum.

Then we’ve got Big Dog Mastiff, an East Bay slowcore and emo rock outfit. They started as a bedroom pop project back in 2022 but have since grown into a full-band, femme-fronted staple of the local DIY circuit.

Rounding out the night is Misandrist, a San Francisco band known for their moody, atmospheric shoegaze that delivers a beautiful, chaotic blend of airy vocals and heavy screams.

As a bonus, if you buy a presale ticket, follow on Instagram, and DM them a screenshot, you’ll be entered to win a ticket giveaway to the actual festival in July. Winners are being announced live at the venue.

If you’re a fan of emo, shoegaze, or just standing in a loud room feeling complex emotions, this is a stacked lineup of homegrown talent.

That’s why this is White Crate’s Show of the Week.

Total Accord Fest is back June 3rd through 20th at venues throughout San Francisco, with artists like Brijean and The Seshen plus a stacked local lineup. We’re breaking down all 13 shows and why they matter.

On Thursday, June 18th, Her DJ Club links with Total Accord DJs Discnogirl, Tom Marsi, and snake t**s at Kilowatt, starting at 10pm and going until the lights come on.

Her DJ Club is really the center of gravity here. A women-led space built to actually teach DJing and open doors, it’s quickly grown into a real pipeline for new talent and community. This night feels like that energy in full motion.

Discnogirl brings the weight. High-impact, deeply rooted in club history, moving through juke, footwork, house, and beyond with a sense of purpose that keeps the floor locked in.

Tom Marsi keeps things fast and unpredictable, flipping between vinyl and digital with a kind of restless, kinetic momentum.

And snake t**s lives right in that late-night zone. Gritty UK bass, garage, breakbeat, all woven into deep house grooves, with a style that’s sweaty, chaotic, and built to pull you all the way in.

If you’re trying to find where the night really peaks, this is one of those rooms that doesn’t let go.

Total Accord Fest is back June 3rd through 20th at venues throughout San Francisco, with artists like Brijean and The Seshen plus a stacked local lineup. We’re breaking down all 13 shows and why they matter.

On Wednesday, June 17th, Total Accord pulls together an eclectic bill at Cafe Du Nord with Plummet, UFO Baby, Anna Hillburg, and Asha Wells all sharing the stage.

This is one of those nights where each artist feels like a different lens on the same idea.

Plummet works in slow, spacious forms, where drones stretch out and small shifts carry real emotional weight. It’s less about hooks, more about letting something unfold.

UFO Baby bends familiar indie sounds into something stranger, pulling from psych and cinematic textures, like a signal that keeps reshaping itself as you follow it.

Anna Hillburg brings warmth and precision, folding her voice and trumpet into chamber pop arrangements that feel rich but never heavy.

And Asha Wells ties it together with something fluid and expansive, blending art folk, chamber pop, and electronic elements into songs that carry emotion without forcing it.

If you want a night that moves through a few different worlds but still feels connected, this is one of the strongest stops on the lineup.
