Born on April 25, 1940 in New York City, Pacino rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most powerful figures in film history. With unforgettable roles in The Godfather, Scarface, and Scent of a Woman, his performances are a masterclass in emotion, intensity, and truth. Over five decades, he has won every major award, inspiring generations of actors and filmmakers. Al Pacino is more than a performer โ€” he is the embodiment of passion, perseverance, and pure artistry that continues to shape world cinema.

BELOW IS A PAINTING BY GEORGE CATLIN of our grandfather Corn. Waglula (Old Man Crazy Horse) married his three daughters Iron Between Horns, Kills Enemy, and Red Leggins. Corn offered his three daughters to Waglula after Waglula saved his village from an enemy attack. During the attack Corn lost his wife and his brother, Little Hawk. So in our Lakota tradition he agreed to take care of his brother"s wife and children with the infant son being given his father"s name, Little Hawk. This is the Little Hawk that young Crazy Horse (Cha-oha) spent a great deal of time with in his youth. Our grandmother Iron Cedar (Julia Clown) was the youngest daughter of Red Leggins.

American Horse โ€“ A Shrewd Sioux Chief
One of the wittiest and shrewdest of the Sioux chiefs was American Horse, who succeeded to the name and position of an uncle, killed in the battle of Slim Buttes in 1876. The younger American Horse was born a little before the encroachments of the whites upon the Sioux country became serious and their methods aggressive, and his early manhood brought him into that most trying and critical period of our history. He had been tutored by his uncle since his own father was killed in battle while he was still very young. The American Horse band was closely attached to a trading post, and its members, in consequence, were inclined to be friendly with the whites, a policy closely adhered to by their leader.
When he was born, his old grandfather said: โ€œPut him out in the sun! Let him ask his great-grandfather, the Sun, for the warm blood of a warrior!โ€ And he had warm blood. He was a genial man, liking notoriety and excitement. He always seized an opportunity to leap into the center of the arena.
In early life, he was a clownish sort of boy among the boys โ€”an expert mimic and impersonator. This talent made him popular and in his way a leader. He was a natural actor, and early showed marked ability as a speaker.
American Horse was about ten years old when he was attacked by three Crow warriors while driving a herd of ponies to water. Here he displayed native cunning and initiative. It seemed he had scarcely a chance to escape, for the enemy was near. He yelled frantically at the ponies to start them toward home, while he dropped off into a thicket of willows and hid there.
A part of the herd was caught in sight of the camp and there was a counter chase, but the Crows got away with the ponies. Of course, his mother was frantic, believing her boy had been killed or captured; but after the excitement was over, he appeared in camp unhurt. When questioned about his escape, he remarked: โ€œI knew they would not take the time to hunt for small game when there was so much bigger close by.โ€

THE NP ARRIVES. (Pt. 1 of 15, transportation.) This 1883 photo by F. Jay Haynes shows Northern Pacific Pres. Henry Villard in Montana to drive the Last Spike. Visiting investors realized that the NP was a long road serving few people. Villard was booted out and the NP was reorganized under bankruptcy.

In 1864, Pres. Lincoln signed a bill granting loans and land for a second transcontinental railroad. During 1881-83, 4,000 workers (2,600 were Chinese) laid track across Montana. People and goods could then make a journey in days that had taken months. Locomotives needed water/fuel stops every 15 miles or so. Entering Montana from the east, NP depots were at Wibaux, Boice, Glendive, Hoyt, Fallon, Terry, Blatchford, Shirley, Tusler, Miles City, Fort Keogh, etc.

Missed the first 20 minutes of the party dedicated to the end of filming of his new film in one of the clubs in New York.
He waited patiently in the rain to be let in.
No one recognized him.
The club owner said: "I didn't even know Keanu was standing in the rain waiting to be let in - he didn't say anything to anyone."
"He travels by public transport". "He easily communicates with homeless people on the street and helps them".
- He is only 58 years old (September 2, 1964)
- He can just eat a hot dog in the park, sitting between ordinary people. - After filming one of the "Matrix", he gave all the stuntmen a new motorcycle - in recognition of their skill.
- He gave up most of the fee for the salaries of costume designers and computer scientists who draw special effects in "The Matrix" - decided that their share of participation in the budget of the film was underestimated.
- He reduced his fee in the film The Devil's Advocate" to have enough money to invite Al Pacino.
- Almost at the same time his best friend died; his girlfriend lost a child and soon died in a car accident, and his sister fell ill with leukemia.
Keanu did not break: he donated $5 million to the clinic that treated his sister, refused to shoot (to be with her), and created the Leukemia Foundation, donating significant sums from each fee for the film. You can be born a man, but to remain one..

LEGGINGS at North Dakotaโ€™s Mandan Reservation, 1903. Miles City (Montana) photographer L.A. Huffman captured Leggings squinting under a bright sun. Leggings wore ceremonial dress in front of an earthen lodge. The Mandan were not migratory. They were among the few Northern Plains tribes who farmed. About 370 full-blood Mandan have survived. Lewis and Clark in 1804 and others had noted variations in skin tones and eye colors (hazel, grey, and even blue) among the Mandan.

L.A. Huffman photographed the view while accompanying historian Olin D. Wheeler, who was interviewing Mandan near Bismarck (ND) for background on his book, "The Trail of Lewis and Clark." Huffman, starting in 1879, took his bulky camera into the field to capture buffalo hunts, bronco bustings, cattle roundups, and other scenes of the Old West. CHIEF SPOTTED EAGLE, 1880-81. The Chief posed for L.A. Huffman in Miles City, Montana. Spotted Eagle (Wambli Gleska) led his Sioux band of Sans Arc (a/k/a Itazipco) warriors at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876. Shortly after, he fled with Sitting Bull to Canada. In Oct. 1880 Spotted Eagle surrendered to Col. Nelson Miles at Ft. Keogh in Eastern Montana. His band of about 600 plus 1,400 other Sioux were held on military land near Ft. Keogh. In 1881 the Sioux were forcibly removed to Standing Rock Reservation in Dakota Territory. Spotted Eagle went to Washington in 1888 to lobby for better conditions for his people.

The historically significant portrait shows that his leather garment was elaborately beaded, his armband had large bear claws ... and his unique war club was intimidating. Click photo to better see detail on a PC. Text and small-file Photoshop restoration of image by Gary Coffrin.
