Our program provides opportunities for students to pursue advanced study in theatre design.

They are given numerous opportunities showcasing their design and technical expertise through our season of plays and musicals as well as with local theatres.

Hello, everyone.

You are invited to a special masterclass/lecture with costume designer Gregg Barnes. A graduate of SDSU, Barnes is an acclaimed stage and film designer and a three-time Tony Award winner for Best Costume Design of a Musical for his work on Broadway. He has also been selected by the SDSU Alumni Association as a recipient of this year’s Alumni of Distinction Award.
The keynote presentation will take place on April 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Experimental Theatre at SDSU. The event will include a Q&A session, and Gregg looks forward to connecting with students and local professionals during his visit.

Going back to such a memorable day. At In our alumni event honoring The Great Ralph Funicello.
With wonderful speakers and amazing friends who traveled from long distances. He is unstoppable and we are so grateful to have been working alongside him while with us at SDSU. Thank you Ralph and we love you so much ♥️

HUGE Shoutout to our first year Lighting Grads!!! Who have successfully completed their first focus in the program.

Lighting Designer of “When She Became The Moon” On top of designing lights he designed his own projections! The 4th image was him and his Assistant focusing them.

Lighting Designer of the Opera “Little Women” Amazing! First time Opera Design. Choosing bold colors and gorgeous textures to compliment her design.
