Itβs time to fight for San Diego dance and the arts!
Last week, Mayor Todd Gloria proposed to ELIMINATE the arts and culture funding for FY 2027. This is unacceptable and suggests that the arts are a luxury, compared to the truth that the arts are actually a means to foster more connection and empathy, drive the creative economy, help people stay cognitively vital and mobile for life, and allow people to express themselves fully.
We must take a stand and tell our stories of what dance and the arts mean to us. Over 189 organizations, like San Diego Dance Theater, rely on city support and funding to carry out our mission of providing access to professional training, performances, and programming and making dance a way of life.
The immediate action steps outlined are provided by the two organizations leading the charge: Arts+Culture: San Diego and San Diego Art Matters.
