Meet our second choreographer for Trolley Dances 2026: Jessica Rabanzo-Flores! 🚋

Jessica Rabanzo-Flores is a performing artist, choreographer, dance educator, and fitness professional native to San Diego. She graduated from UC Irvine with two Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Dance. Jessica has been a company dancer for Malashock Dance for the past three years, and has also been commissioned to create work on the company. She has presented work in New York City and is currently choreographing for the dancers at Mesa College as an adjunct professor. She recently has staged work at the San Diego School of the Creative and Performing Arts. She was also the winner of San Diego Dance Theater’s Young Choreographers Prize in 2013. Jessica is a certified trauma-informed personal trainer and founded her own dance-inspired fitness method Untitled Movement in January 2019 in New York City. She currently trains clients (both virtual and in-person) and teaches at San Diego Dance Theater. In her choreographic process, Jessica is reminded of the beauty of humanity - how there is strength in our differences and in how we interpret the questions we ask ourselves, as artists and as human beings.

Meet our first choreographer for Trolley Dances 2026: Spencer John Powell! 🚋

Spencer John Powell is the Artistic Director and co-founder of Mounarath Powell Dance. His forty years of experience as a performer, choreographer, teacher, director, and producer have earned him awards and guides the MPD company’s success. Powell is known for creating work that reflects shared human experiences and vulnerabilities, utilizing styles such as Afro-contemporary, modern, ballet, and musical theatre. He also collaborates with writers and multidisciplinary artists to bring contemporary stories to the stage. Under his direction, the company produces performances, community and fundraising events, and strengthens the presence of accessible arts in San Diego.

Originally from Utah, Powell attended Weber State University on a full-ride talent scholarship, studied dance and theatre in Houston and New York. He performed with Utah Musical Theatre, Orchesis Dance Theatre, Weber State Performing Arts, Discovery Dance Theatre, Junction City Theatre, and Another Language Performing Arts Company, and later served as Artistic Director of Ogden Contemporary Dance Theatre. Powell also co-founded and directed Tanner-Powell Dance Theatre and founded Kidz Danz Kompany in 1994.

Powell’s work continues to have an impact in the arts both locally and internationally. His piece Son of Cain was commissioned by The Movement Kitchen and sponsored by the Embassy of the United States in Vietnam. He was invited to teach master classes and collective choreography at Soul Music and Performing Arts Academy in Ho Chi Minh City and locally has been a guest teacher for North Coast Repertory Theatre, Mesa College, Granite High School, and several other institutions. He also directed and choreographed the Coronado Playhouse production of Ain’t Misbehavin’, earning a Best Director nomination.

Powell is excited to choreograph for this year’s Trolley Dances and have the opportunity to work with local San Diego dance artists!

For 27 years, Trolley Dances™ has brought San Diego neighborhoods to life with incredible performances along the MTS trolley line. Thanks to YOU, 2025 was a huge success. Your generosity helped power 16 unforgettable performances, provide 375 students with free performances and workshops. connect communities, employ over 50 performance artists, and bring art into motion across our beloved downtown San Diego.

• Site Set-Up
• Ticketing & Info
• Tour Guides (orientation provided)
