After graduating from Harvard Law School, Professor Vandevelde practiced law with a major D.C. law firm and then joined the Office of the Legal Adviser at the U.S. Department of State, where he negotiated international agreements, supervised judicial reform projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, and represented the United States before international tribunals, including the International Court of Justice.
He earned his Ph.D. in history from UCSD, has taught international law and constitutional law for more than 30 years at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, and currently teaches the History of U.S. Foreign Relations and Constitutional History at UCSD.
William J. Aceves is the Dean Steven R. Smith Professor of Law at California Western School of Law. He teaches Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, Human Rights, and Critical Race Theory. He serves on the National Board of Directors for the American Civil Liberties Union and as the Board Chair of the Center for Justice & Accountability. He has published numerous articles on human rights, international law, and racial justice.
