Rarefied Recording is a professionally designed recording studio built from the ground up. Designed by Wes Lachot (www.weslachot.com), Rarefied Recording is about 800sqft and equipped with a wide assortment of digital and analog gear including Apogee conversion, a Neve Genesys board, and Dynaudio M3A main monitors. House engineering is provided by Roy Silverstein previously known for his work at The Habitat. Located in the North Park area of San Diego, CA, Rarefied Recording is within walking distance of the much acclaimed 30th Street Corridor which is home to many fine restaurants, bars, breweries, and shops.

Join us for a fun, hands-on demo of modern hybrid workflows—creative ways to blend Mara tape machines with DAWs—plus plenty of time for Q&A. We’ll also do a tape shootout comparing a Mara ¼” two-track vs ½” two-track, recording multiple musical styles through the same monitoring chain and listening for differences in low end, stereo image, noise, transient response, and harmonic character, along with the technical “why” behind what you’re hearing. We’ll also discuss modern tape formulations by Recording The Masters and all the features/options available on our Mara Machines. Last night I celebrated 13 years of Rarefied! Let’s see what trouble a teenage studio can get into, shall we?
It was great fun sharing my space with friends, family, musician clients, engineer clients, and the folks who came through as part of the AES San Diego studio crawl.
We grubbed, we gabbed, we jammed, we shared music. Good times! Thanks to everyone that rolled through and to everyone who has graced the Rarefied doors.

Awesome session today with .barnacleboys . The KU4 sounded great on the bass, but given the live nature of the tracking session it helped to add the Nadine. I’ve had it for awhile, but this was my first time getting to use it and I really thought it added to the results nicely.
