Our San Diego Chorus double quartet, Retail Therapy, took the stage at last night’s Golden West Region 21 – SingUnited International Double Quartet Contest with The Sound of Online Shopping.

While we were disappointed to see our three-year Golden Banana (Musical Parody) winning streak come to an end, the sting was softened considerably when the judges awarded us FIRST PLACE.

We will happily take the trade! ❤️ 🎶 🔥

By popular request, we’ve included our original lyrics below. And yes, before anyone asks, we reluctantly admit that many of our observations about online shopping may have been drawn from real-life experience. Purely for research purposes, of course. 🛍️📦😏

Oh - and OF COURSE there was a Retail Therapy playlist included with our judges bribes! Enjoy it here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2uo9w8YBpNsfpsyzFfnvWR?si=YQ_CZO7VT0e-6XGzZiO5AQ&pi=Q4fuBM44Tg6Dg

The Sound of Online Shopping
(PARODY: The Sound of Silence)

Hello, Amazon my friend.
I’ve come to shop with you again.
If you would drop it right of at my door -
Slide it over, because here comes more.

And the sound of the promo code
is just like *DING DING*
- a little bling! (Little bling)
And that’s the sound … of online shopping.

I shop on Insta and TikTok.
Although the total is a shock!
It doesn’t count if there is a sale.
Plus now my wardrobe’s looking so upscale.

But I make just be spending
much more than I make
(I broke the bank)
But I can’t stop … my online shopping.

Perhaps just one more shopping spree?
(Just ONE more spree!)
If I buy four, the fifth one’s free!
(Such a deal - IT’S FREE!)
Plus free shipping? Now I’m on a high.
I need it all, don’t ask me why.

When it arrives
I cannot remember just what I’ve bought
(it’s quite a lot)
I have no plans … of stopping.

With all the boxes I’ve amassed
(some gift wrapped)
From my purchases so vast … holy crap!
(OH HOLY MOLY - HOLY CRAP!!)

Then my online shopping was flagged
As potential fraud … very odd. (!)

For now - farewell - to online shopping.

🎶 Turns out harmony might be good for your HEALTH, too. 💛

A new article highlighted by People Magazine points to growing research that engaging with the arts may provide benefits comparable to physical exercise — supporting emotional wellbeing, cognitive health, connection, and even longevity.

Honestly? We believe it.

At the San Diego Chorus, we see it every week: singers ranging from their 20s to their 90s building friendships, sharpening their minds, breathing deeply, laughing loudly, and creating something beautiful together through 4-part a ca****la harmony.

Music moves us — emotionally, socially, and maybe even biologically. ✨

If you’ve been curious about chorus life, this might be your sign to come experience it for yourself.

A new study found that engaging in arts like reading, listening to music or visiting an art gallery may slow biological aging similarly to exercise.

🌺 Congratulations to San Diego Chorus member Judy Sadoyama, who has been appointed to the Sweet Adelines International Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council — becoming the first American of Japanese ancestry from Hawai‘i to serve on this important global team.

A longtime Sweet Adelines member and proud Hawai‘i resident, Judy brings a unique perspective shaped by the islands’ uniquely diverse community.

“Because Hawai‘i is multi-ethnic and multi-cultural, the climate and attitude surrounding race and even gender identity are entirely different from the rest of the United States and the world,” Sadoyama shared. “I want to bring our unique qualities to the organization, while incorporating the perspectives and experiences of my colleagues.”

We’re proud to celebrate Judy’s leadership, heart for inclusion, and commitment to helping every singer feel seen, valued, and welcomed in harmony.

🎶 Sending all the best to our own Kayla Rodgers as she heads to Harmony Fest West in Chandler, Arizona today! ✈️❤️

Kayla serves the San Diego Chorus’s 2nd Assistant Director and Education Coordinator — and, because you can NEVER have enough harmony, she is also the Director of the California Note Catchers! This La Mesa-based chorus has spent months polishing and perfecting its contest package in preparation for this exciting Harmony, Incorporated. regional event.

We’re so proud of the leadership, passion, and musical excellence she brings to every rehearsal room she steps into. Wishing Kayla and the Notecatchers an unforgettable weekend filled with ringing chords, memorable performances, and joy. 💫

🎶 Turns out harmony is good for more than the soul… ❤️

A recent NPR article highlighted research suggesting that engaging with the arts may actually help slow biological aging. Honestly? We believe it.

The San Diego Chorus is proudly cross-generational, with singers ranging from their 20s all the way into their 90s — united by music, friendship, purpose, and a whole lot of laughter along the way. 💫

There’s something powerful about singing together. The connection. The creativity. The joy. The sense of belonging. Science may finally be catching up to what chorus singers have known all along. 🎤

So if you needed one more reason to give it a try… here it is. 😉

We’d love to welcome you to one of our casual weekly rehearsals! RSVP anytime, and our members will be standing by to greet and guide you.

🎶 Come see what harmony can do.

Eat well and exercise. That's the classic advice for living a long, healthy life. A new study suggests another habit to add to the list: Let your creative juices flow.
