Summer may be over and school is back in session, but we are still reflecting on an incredible week with our Girls Who Lead students!📚✏️🔬

This summer, high school girls came together for a week-long experience filled with hands-on activities, career exploration, and opportunities to connect with people working across STEAM.

From extracting strawberry DNA and conducting hands-on experiments to visiting real-life labs and hearing from professionals through mentorship panels, students got an inside look at the many possibilities within STEAM.

A huge thank you to these supporters for connecting with our students: Artiva Biotherapeutics, Belharra Therapeutics, Board of Supervisors County of San Diego, Biology through Art, Eli Lilly and Company, Kenai Therapeutics, Kura Oncology, Inc., San Diego Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE), and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

We are incredibly grateful to our partners and mentors for helping make this experience possible and for inspiring the next generation of women in STEAM.

As these students head back to school, we hope they will carry with them new skills, new connections, and the confidence to see themselves as future STEAM leaders.

Bringing genomics to the classroom with Illumina Genomics Discoveries!

Generation STEAM’s Illumina Genomic Discoveries (IGD) program gives students the opportunity to explore genomics through hands-on, real-world science.

From preparing their own DNA libraries and engaging in interactive lab training tools, IGD brings the world of genomics directly to students and helps make complex science exciting, accessible, and fun.

We’re proud to partner with Illumina to spark curiosity, build confidence, and give students a chance to see themselves in the world of STEAM.

Curious to see IGD in action? Check out our new promotional video on the IGD YouTube channel! Link in bio.

Thank you, ASML!

We’re so grateful to the ASML team for volunteering with Generation STEAM and helping us prepare 300 science kits for elementary students across San Diego County!

The ASML team assembled hands-on kits that will give young students the opportunity to explore circuits, engineering, and problem-solving through a fun and engaging activity.

Their time and teamwork will help bring STEAM learning directly into classrooms and inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators. We are incredibly grateful for ASML’s partnership and commitment to supporting STEAM education in our community!

Thank you, ASML, for helping us make science fun, accessible, and interactive for San Diego students!🔬🐛💜

This year, Generation STEAM reached 36,977 community members across 158 schools, impacting 16,541 students and 266 educators. Behind those numbers are 2,364 volunteers who gave more than 10,000 hours to help make those moments possible.

And this year, we saw the first-year impact of something new: FutureReady.

In its first year, FutureReady brought hands-on biotechnology and career exposure to 225 students across three schools, impacting five teachers along the way. Students worked with real biotechnology tools, built technical skills, and began to see themselves as scientists.

A student gaining confidence by manipulating a protein structure with their own hands. A student discovering that learning about DNA could spark an interest in STEAM. A student getting the chance to build skills that could someday lead to a career in the life sciences or another high-growth industry.

And now, we’re building the place where that work can grow.

This fall, Generation STEAM is moving into our permanent Generation STEAM Lab at the Linda Vista Innovation Center, in partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education. The new lab will give FutureReady students a dedicated space to continue working with cutting-edge biotechnology, developing real-world technical skills, and exploring careers they may never have imagined for themselves.

Will you help us reach more students, expand FutureReady, and keep building opportunities for the next generation? Your support makes this work possible. Donate at our link in bio today. SanDiegoCOE

What happens when students get to step beyond the classroom and experience STEAM careers firsthand?

This summer, students in the Pathways to STEAM Externship program with Oceanside Unified School District got an inside look at the exciting possibilities ahead of them. They visited local companies and organizations, explored innovative labs, learned how products are developed, and connected directly with STEAM professionals.

These immersive experiences gave students the opportunity to ask questions, build connections, and see how the skills they’re developing today can translate into careers tomorrow.

A huge thank you to Bristol Myers Squibb, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and Oceanside Unified School District for helping make this program possible, and to all the incredible organizations that welcomed our students and shared their time, expertise, and passion:

Amigas In Tech, Catalent, FutureReady, Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, National Marine Mammal Foundation, Recludix Pharma, SemiconBio Inc., TaylorMade Golf Company, and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

We’re proud to help students discover what’s possible when they connect their education to the real world and excited to see where these pathways take them next!

Bring the wonders of science to life!

The Pfizer School of Science Mobile Experience is coming to San Diego! This immersive, hands-on experience gives students the opportunity to step into the world of science through an interactive 53-foot, double-expandable mobile laboratory. Participants will work together to decode riddles, crack codes, solve problems, and build critical thinking and collaboration skills in just 20 minutes!

Beyond the Mobile Experience, students can explore additional activities, including robot dogs, and get a glimpse into the diverse possibilities of scientific careers.

Important registration information: This experience is open to schools and community programs/group entities only. Individual or family registrations cannot be accommodated at this time.

Imagine a space where a student can walk in curious about science and walk out believing they could be a scientist.

That is the vision behind the Generation STEAM Lab.

We’re creating a hands-on learning environment where students can do more than learn about science in a classroom. They’ll have the opportunity to work with real laboratory equipment, earn industry recognized certifications, build practical skills, connect with STEM professionals, and discover career pathways they may never have even known existed.

Because sometimes, all it takes is one experience, one mentor, or one opportunity to change the way a student sees their future.

We’re raising $500,000 to make the Generation STEAM Lab a reality. Thanks to the support of Lineage Cell and Promega, we are one step closer to creating a space where the next generation of scientists, innovators, and problem solvers can explore what’s possible.🔬🥼🧪🧫

Our Pathways to STEAM students from Oceanside Unified School District got hands-on in the lab this week with our FutureReady curriculum. They dove into aseptic technique, fermentation, and genetic engineering through CRISPR. From setting up live yeast cultures to building paper plasmid models, they experienced the kind of work that happens in biomanufacturing facilities right here in San Diego🎈🧬
