Reviewers highlighted the show’s wit, heartbreak, and empowering message, noting that it stands on its own even for audiences unfamiliar with Shakespeare.

Lauren Gunderson’s acclaimed play transforms Elsinore into a story of survival, resilience, and reclaiming your narrative. As one reviewer noted, these are the women “left offstage” no more.

📖 "Hamlet" has inspired countless reimaginings—but Lauren Gunderson's A Room in the Castle asks a different question: What happens when we shift the focus to the women at the heart of Shakespeare's tragedy?

The San Diego Union-Tribune spotlights Gunderson's fresh take on the classic story, told through the eyes of Queen Gertrude and Ophelia—two characters often relegated to the margins of the tale.
