It is with a heavy heart that I bring this news to you all. For almost a full decade the Marked Men party has worked happily with the Maritime Museum of San Diego, alongside their event planners Jim Davis and Warren Potts. But over the past year the Maritime Museum has brought in dramatic changes and some of the greatest people have left due to these changes. This includes bringing in a new Event Planner, an Event Planner that takes two weeks to respond to any questions that were asked via email, that never responded to any voicemails by giving return calls. That, for whatever reason, is not in the office on a weekday when I personally went down there to talk to them at 2 PM due to the lack of responses. These are problems that I have never run into before when working with the company. It literally felt like she was ignoring me as best she could. My last question before she finally sent the contract, was “would the price remain the same.” Two weeks later I got the contract with a drastic increase in the price tag.
So not only did her/their professionalism delay ticket sales so late in the game that it’s almost impossible to get a good turnaround (this was last week mind you,) they wanted to charge me a lot more-making it financially impossible to put the event on. I’ve always loved the party, and we do it really cheap, but the price increase made it almost a guarantee that I’d be losing money.
I then replied stating that I wanted the rent to stay the same and a discount as well, due to the lack of responses and the party was only a month away. That was a week ago and still no response whether yes or no, I’m going to assume it’s a No, and even if it is not unfortunately I cannot do business with this company any longer it is unprofessional and completely unorganized.
So due to this fact, unfortunately the Marked Men party will not only be not happening this year, it looks like it will not be happening again. In the foreseeable future.
I would just like to take the time to thank the great Event Planner’s again, Jim and Warren who have always been fantastic and let me get away with all kinds of things I shouldn’t have over the years to make the party amazing because they loved it as well. Also like to thank all the people and crew that all chipped in to help make the party amazing over the years I could not of done it without you! And I would like to thank all of you, the patrons, the Pirates, that supported and paid the money to come and have an epic magical party adventure on the ship once a year during San Diego comic-con. Your love for this party kept it going!
I’m Going to keep this page up, any future themed events I am planning I will post it on here as well, and who knows?
Maybe one day we’ll return when we find a different ship, until then, Keep a weather eye on the horizon.
