What test tiles are and how they are used! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

I have to say these test tiles are one of the best things I have ever made. Itโ€™s a lot of work to get they all made but once that done these tiles are so helpful. I like to think of them kinda like paint swatches. When Iโ€™m deciding on colors I always consult these guys so I know what Iโ€™m working with. I hope this video was informational!

Making a vase using my favorite design!! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

I absolutely love the colors of a sunset. I think that is when the sky is most beautiful. I find myself always startling long after the sun is down just trying to see the colors change. This is one of my attempts at making a sunset on a vase. Let me know what you think!

Making a vase on a vintage pottery wheel!! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

Wow this was quite the experience! I canโ€™t believe people use to use these all the time. It was a lot of fun trying this out and I definitely need to practice this more. I struggled with using anything over 2 lbs since there is no big weight on the bottom it doesnโ€™t carry momentum well so you have to pump the whole time. Itโ€™s a challenge but itโ€™s fun. Let me know you think!

I got a vintage pottery wheel from the 60โ€™s!!๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

So I was on Facebook marketplace looking for things and when this one showed up, I jumped on it so fast. The wheel is a wheel from the 60s and itโ€™s completely mechanical. It was a little messy when I picked it up, but after a quick clean, I think this wheel is back in working order. It doesnโ€™t carry much moment because that flywheel is thin, but I canโ€™t wait to figure this one out!

How to make a Sunset vase!!๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

First off I have to say how much I love this piece! Im very happy with the way it turned out and I hope you like it too. I hope my explanation in the video makes sense but basically itโ€™s a lot of pattern making. You have to slowly introduce new colors to your vase and try to have a smooth transition smooth to new design. Let me know what you think!

Revealing the true colors!! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

Cleaning vases is always so satisfying. I have to do this because when you fire pottery a layer of dust often builds on pieces. You can blow the dust off with compressed air or use water like me. Since I use colored clay, this step rehydrates the piece a little and brings so much life into the colors. I still need to glaze them though!

Using colors Iโ€™ve never used together before!! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

Making this vase was so much fun. I layered 38 different colored clays up and marbled them for the design on this one. Making the 19 base colors took me forever but I think it was worth it. This piece is actually part of a small series I made called rose in bloom. I made up 3 designs in total for this series. I hope you like it, let me know what you think!

This question made me stop and think!๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

I think thereโ€™s a lot of pressure to reinvent yourself as an artist. While I think that is possible I think you are doing yourself a big disservice. In my opinion, itโ€™s part of the artistic process to just show up and get into the motions of creating art and that normally means making something that itโ€™s familiar to you or doing a technique that you know. I think thatโ€™s where the new ideas come.

The texture on this vase is amazing!! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

As I wrap up my texture series I wanted to highlight this one in particular. I have never done one like this and I think the way the light reflects off the grooves is really satisfying. It is so crazy to think about the fact that there is unlimited textures to use on pieces and I canโ€™t wait to try more out! Let me know what you think!
