Here’s my submission for the poster contest being held by . The festival is happening in Monterey this year! We *just* took our kids on a California roadtrip and made a stop there (for Dennis the Menace Park- iykyk). I remember a stop there as a kid and seeing otters in the bay… so they got to be the stars of my submissions. I tried to stick to three colors (as requested) and made versions with and without text. There are so many fun posters already entered… what a fun “assignment” to participate in. 🌊🦀🧜‍♀️🪸🦦

I’ve been really into giving myself “assignments” lately. Like the tshirt design contest I entered last month (and a poster design contest I’ll be sharing in a couple days). This was a classic that coupled 🤝 with . Yay! Thanks for the challenge (swipe thru the photos to see her adorable original reference). Looking at the hashtag I see most went digital… so mine is definitely a bit different. 🫣. But it’s me! So yay again. 🧜‍♀️ 🎨

I only recorded a bit of the process… and then forgot to record the result before a more recent project seeped through the pages (adding blue to the center… oops!). But this is a spread I made using a couple photos from a trip my husband went on a million years ago. Cathedral Cove in New Zealand is pure magic. I can’t wait to take my kids someday.
Also, the photo I referenced for me and my husband was of me jumping and him doing a handstand… and we used a tripod and a self timer and some reallllly good timing. We were really great at taking weird pictures 😂

It’s been so long since I did a challenge but this cute frog was *quite* the compelling subject matter. Swipe to slide two to see the fabulous original I referenced done by the ever so talented . I recently watched a free online tutorial Victoria hosted… painting a sweet coffee pot. I finally got around to rewatching that and painting along (though I used watercolors which behave quite differently than gouache). I’ll share those results in the next week or so. I hope you guys all take time to make something or do something you love today. Thank you to for the inspiration.

2025 was actually a pretty great year (family wise— I know that the world is a bit of a s**t show at the moment). We went to 3 national parks, started archery, did swim team, had a first season of soccer, had workplace wins, I doodled SO MANY muppets, launched a WEBSITE(!!!), went on so many adventures and made art all year. I’m realllly looking forward to what 2026 has for this team of ours… but to start things out a bit slower and a bit more intentionally I’m going to take a month (maybe a bit more?) off from social media. I’ll still be making stuff. I can’t NOT make things. And I’ll record it some way or another. But it’ll just be for me for awhile. If you need me you can email me naptimepress@gmail dot com. Got some new paints under the tree! I added these Pastel colors from to my tin filled with their Luminous set. Sooo pretty. Can’t wait to try them out.
However, a bout with food poisoning took me out for a bit over 24 hours. I’m feeling better now, but my tummy is tender and my energy is LOW. Hopefully an uninterrupted night of sleep will set me on track to get some painting in tomorrow. 🤞
