Developed by La Jolla Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley in April 2008, the Resident Theatre Program is designed to address the lack of available, affordable performance spaces for the many vibrant theatre companies in San Diego. Developed by La Jolla Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley in April 2008, the Resident Theatre Program is designed to address the lack of available, affordable performance spaces for the many vibrant theatre companies in San Diego, providing a temporary home for those companies without a permanent venue. Each year, the Playhouse selects a local arts organization through a competitive application process, to use one of the La Jolla Playhouse venues for two productions rent free. In addition to performance space, the Playhouse provides the Resident Theatre Company with lighting and sound support as well as advice in the areas of marketing and development.
