The last time Michael Chioldi sang with us, it was 2000, and he played Masetto — the sweet, put-upon groom in (pictured).
In the twenty-six years since, Chioldi has become one of the great Rigolettos of his generation, singing 's jester worldwide, to rave reviews.
When he took the stage at The Metropolitan Opera in 2022, Bachtrack wrote that Chioldi "scored a triumph in the title role." In Vancouver, one critic marveled at how "he moves masterfully from brute...to vulnerability" — which is in a single sentence: the fury, and the father underneath it.
We can't wait to have him back, October 23–25 at the San Diego Civic Theatre.
