Art is medicine…

If you’ve been saying to yourself,
“I really need to make some art again...” maybe don’t overthink it.

It doesn’t have to be perfect.
Just make something.

You don’t have to call yourself an artist. (Unless you want to!!)

What’ve you been wanting to make? 💜🎨

Another reason I think we call it “woo” 😍😎

A few years ago, I was working with a woman who used some of my creative prompts with the children in her art therapy practice.

She was so excited by what the kids were creating, and what she was creating… that she suddenly started shouting:

“Woooooooo!” ❤️‍🔥🎨

Now that’s my kind of woo. 😉

The sound a fully grown woman makes when all parts of her come together. Emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual…

Possibility opens up and she remembers that creativity is miraculous. 💜🎨

Did you see the first reel in this little “woo” conversation?

What are your thoughts on woo? Tell me in the comments! 🤭

For years, I didn’t just think I was disorganized.

I thought there was something wrong with me.

As a little girl, I had a trundle bed without the second mattress, which meant there was basically one giant
drawer underneath my bed.

Everything went in there.

Notes. Beads. Buttons. Stickers. Markers. Googly eyes. Puppets. Mysterious little art-project parts…

Every time I opened the giant drawer, everything shifted. It was less of a drawer and more of an earthquake! 🤭

We were all doing our best. But for a long time, I took the mess personally. ❤️‍🩹

I thought I was broken.

Eventually, I realized there was nothing wrong with me.

I’m an animator. I make puppets. I make art. Of course I collect tiny, interesting, potentially useful things :)))

I didn’t need less curiosity…
I needed a system that understood me.

That is part of creative practice too.

Not only making the art, but creating an environment where your ideas, materials, personality, and dreams have somewhere to live.

Sometimes that means painting at the easel. Sometimes it means painting some extra drawers.

You don’t need to complete every idea that crosses your mind. That would be like trying to track every cloud that floats overhead.

But you can choose one small idea and keep your word to yourself.

Paint the lamp.
Paint the box.
Prepare the vessel.

Sometimes the next step is simply making your space more supportive of who you already are.

Your heart will thank you. 💜🎨

I almost skipped this art exercise...

When my mentor said,
“Write how you want to feel,”

my immediate reaction was...
Barf. 🤢😂

Not because I was against feeling good.

I just didn’t want to pretend.

I wasn’t looking for fake positivity.

I didn’t want to skip over what I was actually feeling.

I wanted something honest.

But... awkwardly... I did the exercise anyway.

To my surprise, it worked.
Something definitely shifted.

It invited the kind of messy art I’d been craving.

Uncensored.
Alive.
Real.

And then something surprising happened.

Almost immediately.
Almost magically.
Without forcing it...
it made room.

Room for gratitude.
Room for hope.
Even room for forgiveness!

And maybe that’s the part that felt so “woo” to me.

I thought I was just making some messy art. But somehow, it went deeper.

Something opened in my heart… just by giving the truth somewhere to go.

Maybe that’s what “woo” really is.

When something changes inside you... before you can fully explain it.

So yes, maybe it IS a little woo.
Just not the kind I thought. 😉

Stay tuned for Part 2, because there’s another reason I think we call things “woo.” 💜🎨

I never imagined this would be my path.

For years I thought I’d become a nurse.

Then cancer changed everything.

During treatment, art became one of the few places where I still felt like myself. It helped me process what I couldn’t put into words. It gave me somewhere to return to.

That’s when I realized this wasn’t just something I loved. It was something I needed to share.

Today Studio Art Heart is my way of helping other people discover that creativity isn’t about making perfect art.

It’s about coming home to yourself.

I’m so glad you’re here! 💜🎨

I used to think creativity only happened when I was sitting in my art space.

But over the years I’ve noticed something...

Some of the most important creative work happens away from the canvas.

Walking.

Wondering.

Looking up.

Staying with a question a little longer.

Staying with yourself a little longer.

Creativity isn’t always visible 👀

Sometimes the roots are growing before anything appears above the surface. 🌿💜
