Himalayan Wolf🐺🐺🐺

-Its ability to adapt to the challenging conditions of life at high altitudes is what makes it special.

This species can withstand low oxygen levels at high heights and possesses a thick, woolly coat for frigid temperatures.

The wolf's dull earthy-brown hairs are rooted on its back and tail, and it has yellowish-white fur on its limbs, face, and belly.

In their native habitat, which includes the Himalayan Mountains, Central Asian Mountains, the Tibetan Plateau, and Ladakh, India, Himalayan Wolves are in risk of extinction.

Foxes

-Foxes are as adaptable to human life as coyotes. Foxes belong to the same Canidae family as wolves and coyotes, although they do not belong to the same genus. About three-quarters of the United States is home to red (Vulpes vulpes) and gray (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) foxes. Only a few isolated regions in the western United States are home to swift (Vulpes velox) and kit (Vulpes macrotis) foxes. Arctic foxes (Alopex lagopus) are found in the far northern regions of Greenland, Alaska, and Canada.

Dingo (Canis lupus dingo)

-The dingo (Canis lupus dingo) is a controversial addition to the list of different wolf species. They are definitely related, but some see them as a type of dog, some see them as wolves, others see them as a different species... I've included it for completeness.

Dingoes are relatively small, weighing around 70 pounds (32 kg), and are found mainly in Australia and parts of Asia. They are wild animals and it is not illegal to keep them as pets in parts of Western Australia. However, wild animals cannot always be tamed and it is important to socialize them from an early age.

The dingo's fur is uniform in color and varies from reddish brown to yellow. Dingoes have rare cases of albinism.

Steppe Wolf (Canis lupus campestris)

-The steppe wolf is a small-sized wolf that may be found all throughout the Caucasus, including in some areas of southern Kazakhstan and northern Ukraine, and it is crucial to the environment of the area's steppes.
The steppe wolf is roughly ordinary in size compared to other wolf species and has rough, brownish-gray fur. It contributes significantly to the Caucasian steppe ecoregion as a keystone species, assisting in the regulation and management of regional ecosystems. Although the population of steppe wolves is currently largely stable, it faces a high risk of extinction because of rising human-wolf conflicts over time. Since they are not protected by the majority of national laws, they are nevertheless hunted in various regions of their habitat.

Mongolian Wolf (Canis lupus chanco)

-A relatively near relative of the Himalayan wolf is the Mongolian wolf. In fact, there is some controversy among scientists as to whether it is better to include it with the Himalayan wolf or whether it should really be designated a separate subspecies.
However, the Mongolian wolf has historically been found across all of Mongolia as well as in some regions of China, Russia, and the Korean Peninsula. The number of wolves in Mongolia was formerly thought to be at 30,000, but due to widespread wolf hunting, this number fell to roughly 10,000 in the early 2000s.
Although the wolves are still in danger of going extinct, Mongolian wolves are currently subject to a significant amount of protection.

African golden wolf (Canis anthus)

The African golden wolf (Canis anthus) is a species of wolf found on the African continent. This wolf is adapted to the semi-desert climate, but prefers to live in areas with nearby water sources. This wolf is also known as the Egyptian jackal and has had a tricky taxonomic history. Genomic studies have found it to be majority gray wolf with some Ethiopian wolf lineage

As for its physical characteristics, its size is smaller than most other other wolves. They weigh around 15 kilos and have a dark coat on the back and tail. Their legs and abdomen are usually sandy colored, which gives them their golden appearance.

Mexican Wolf (Canis lupus baileyi)

Often considered to be the rarest wolf subspecies in North America, the Mexican wolf is a very small wolf with mostly dark-colored fur.

The Mexican wolf was once very common in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. However, wolf hunting decimated the population over the last few centuries driving the subspecies to near-extinction.

Thankfully, as a result of a dedicated breeding program, the Mexican wolf population is on the rise.

Arctic Wolf (Canis lupus arctos)

Arguably the most recognizable of the wolf subspecies, the Arctic wolf is a gorgeous canine that inhabits the northernmost regions of the world in Canada’s Queen Elizabeth Islands.

While many other wolves often have light grey fur, the Arctic wolf distinguishes itself by having a nearly completely white coloration. In photos, it can sometimes be confused with other lightly-colored subspecies, like the Hudson Bay wolf, but its mostly white coat and medium-size appearance usually set it apart.

In its Arctic environment, the Arctic wolf tends to eat mostly muskoxen and Arctic hares, though it has also been known to eat caribou and even Arctic foxes.

Arabian Wolf (Canis lupus arabs)

Considered to be one of the smallest types of wolves, the Arabian wolf, or desert wolf, is traditionally found throughout the Arabian Peninsula. However, it is now found only in small packs within parts of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, and southern Israel.

These wolves are fairly unique among their species as they live in desert, rather than forested or tundra environments. As a result, they have very thin and short fur that tends to be lightly colored.

The Arabian wolf is normally less than 45 lbs (20 kg) in weight, which makes it just half the size of its larger cousins. It also has massive ears and other unique adaptations that help it thrive in a desert environment.

Himalayan Wolf (Canis lupus chanco)

Sometimes called the Tibetan wolf, the Himalayan wolf is a debated subspecies that’s closely related to the Mongolian wolf. These wolves are found throughout the Indian subcontinent, including parts of the Himalaya. They can live in a variety of ecosystems, including in montane forests and alpine regions though they tend to prefer grasslands.

For the most part, these wolves feed on a variety of small to medium-sized mammals, but they have a preference for yak, sheep, and other domesticated livestock. This has caused some problems for the wolf in recent years as farmers look to protect their herds.

However, the taxonomic uncertainty surrounding the distinction between Himalayan and Mongolian wolves makes it difficult for local governments to formally protect these subspecies.

Steppe Wolf (Canis lupus campestris)

Found throughout the Caucasus, including in parts of southern Kazakhstan and northern Ukraine, the steppe wolf is a modestly-sized wolf that plays an important role in the region’s steppe ecosystem.

When compared to other wolf types, the steppe wolf is fairly average in size with coarse, brownish-grey fur. It plays a major role as a keystone species within the Caucasian steppe ecoregion, where it helps to regulate and manage local ecosystems.

However, while the steppe wolf’s population is currently somewhat stable, it is at a heightened risk of extinction due to increasing human-wolf conflicts over the years. They are still hunted throughout various parts of their range as they are not protected under most national laws.
