Jean Lowe: Heavy Petal
Opening this Saturday with a reception from 11am-1pm
Rose Canyon Gallery: 5171 Santa Fe Street, Suite H, San Diego, CA

This Saturday morning, please join us at our Rose Canyon space for a special exhibition of recent paintings from Jean Lowe. A concentrated study around the 17th-century era of Dutch flower paintings, Heavy Petal includes a mix of small and large-scale paintings on panel, canvas, and paper, each providing unique surfaces for casein paint to reveal its particular depth of color and vibrance. This selection of works, which the artist has been primarily focused on for the past year, are a characteristic playful but often faithful interpretation of the works of Dutch painters like Ruysch, Seghers, and Beert.

We are pleased to present Christine Lee: By Hand, the artist’s first exhibition with Quint Gallery. Lee is a San Diego-based artist and designer whose interdisciplinary practice is presently centered on a variety of research tools that bridge traditional craft processes with both computer technology and direct-hand manipulation. The exhibition will include an intimate selection of three unique bodies of work, including weavings using materials like cotton, wool, and copper wire, and hand-stacked wall compositions made from painted shims. With a background in woodworking and design, her work reflects her deep affinity for and attention to patterns, salvaged materials, and the natural environment.

This Saturday, August 22, David Adey will be discussing his exhibition ‘Sacrificial Bodies’ at Oceanside Museum of Art from 1:00-3:00 pm. The exhibition, curated by Mark Quint, is accompanied by a beautiful catalog with essays by Robert Pincus, Lauren Buscemi, G. James Daichendt, and Quint. The exhibition is on view through November 1.

Tomorrow is the last chance to view Nancy Blum’s exhibition at 7722 Girard Ave!

Behaving less like discrete images than a living system, the stripes function as spatial intervals between the radiating stars—not as negative space, but akin to major and minor keys in music. This cadence produces a sonic resonance that suggests that the work and the viewer are part of an even greater whole. Perception unfolds gradually through movement, continuity, and sustained looking.

The gallery is open from 11am-5pm.
