The Scripteasers has been San Diego's premiere playwrights' development group since 1948. We conduct a free-to-enter contest with cash prizes each summer.

We host free readings of local works on the 2nd & 4th Fridays of the month. Visit scripteasers.org for more info. Submissions are always welcome. Whatever your interest in theater, there's a place for you at Scripteasers! SAN DIEGO-AREA PLAYWRIGHTS:
Scripteasers is always looking for new scripts from San Diego-area playwrights: full-lengths, one-acts and 10-minute stageplays, as well as screenplays. For more information, check our Submission Guidelines. ACTORS / READERS:
Unrehearsed readings are an excellent opportunity to develop your craft. Best of all: no rehearsals and no memorizing! Arrive early (7:15 p.m.) and introduce yourself to the Moderator or Playwright to learn about possible roles. AUDIENCE MEMBERS:
No play exists without YOU. Bring your imagination to enjoy an original script every other Friday evening. Afterwards, offer your comments and feedback to help the playwright.

Charlie, a recent college graduate, doesn’t know who he is or what he wants from life. His father has offered Charlie an important position in his business, but a mysterious older woman in the dark corner of the bar holds the final decision.

"THE LEGACY," by Jeanne Becijos
A renowned artist is promoting his much-anticipated gallery exhibit on a podcast. All goes well until the host abruptly announces there is a report of cancellation of the artist’s exhibit due to a recent unauthorized biography revealing the artist’s past misconduct.

Join *The Scripteasers* for a free playreading on SUNDAY, 9/13 at 1PM at the LAKESIDE LIBRARY! This *air-conditioned* venue is at 12428 Woodside Ave, & it's closer than you think. Discussion of this fascinating play will be moderated by Richard Fouts. More details at www.scripteasers.org.

STREAMS OF STARLIGHT, loosely based on the actual relationship between a conwoman claiming to be a high-society philanthropist and a mentally unstable but successful painter, explores how the impersonator comes to believe in her assumed identity and how she struggles to separate herself from the person she was born as. Ironically, after vainly trying to make money off the captive artist and contributing to his death, she ends up a prisoner in the same mental institution from which she “rescued” him and retreats inescapably into the personality she played.

The playwright, Kenneth Krauss, graduated from Sussex University (UK). He earned a PhD from Columbia University in dramatic literature. As Drama Professor at Saint Rose College (Albany, NY) through three decades, he taught and produced 60+ plays, wrote playscripts (four performed Off-Off) and published seven books. He retired to California where, after finishing a study of Casanova’s memoirs, he turned full-time playwright, writing dramas, plays with music and musicals. Current project: a musical about Marcel Proust and a drama about the 1980s AIDS Pandemic.

COLLATERAL TRUTH unfolds over a single day inside a small newsroom where a difficult story forces colleagues to confront the limits of their ideals. As pressure mounts, personal history, professional loyalty and moral certainty collide, and doing the “right” thing becomes anything but clear. The play asks what we owe the truth, what we owe each other, and what we are willing to risk when those obligations come into conflict.
