“MINGLE FREELY” IS NOT A NETWORKING STRATEGY

Most networking events include some version of the same instruction in the run of show: “Mingle freely.”

Then the room fills.

Some guests immediately find people they know. Small groups form. Others arrive, look around, and must decide where to go, whom to approach, and how to join a conversation already underway.

For corporate event planners, that is where the planning truly shows.

Networking is not only a guest-list problem. Tight circles are hard to enter. As more people share the same floor, movement slows, conversations compete, and people strain to hear one another.

Hospitality takes up hands and floor space. A guest holding a drink in one hand and a plate in the other has no free hand to offer when someone comes over to introduce themselves. Food stations, bars, furniture, and displays take up floor space that guests would otherwise use to stand.

The goal is not to choreograph every interaction. It is to remove friction. Guests need a natural entry point, enough room to talk, and somewhere to continue when the conversation is worth keeping.

Before approving the floor plan, do not stop at asking, “How many people can we fit in the room?”

Ask what the room will be like when those people are standing in it, talking to each other.

“Mingle freely” is a reasonable outcome. It is not a strategy.

Ren Geisick Brings Jazz, Americana, Country, Blues, and Soul to AutoVino Wine Garden
FRIDAY, AUGUST 28 | 4:30–7 PM

Los Gatos-raised singer-songwriter Ren Geisick will perform this Friday at the AutoVino Wine Garden. Enjoy Happy Hour with live music, Woodside Vineyards wine, Neapolitan-style pizza, oak-fired wings, and charcuterie boards.

A JAZZ VOICE WITH AMERICANA ROOTS

Ren Geisick fuses jazz, Americana, country, blues, and soul. As an Ella Fitzgerald Scholarship recipient and a DownBeat honoree, she brings expert musicianship and emotional authenticity to every performance.

Ren’s expressive voice and thoughtful interpretations perfectly complement AutoVino's Wine Garden. Enjoy dinner from the diner bus while sipping Woodside Vineyards wine. Spend your Friday evening listening to original songs and reimagined classics among the grapevines, surrounded by family and friends.

PIZZA AND WINGS FROM THE DINER BUS

Chef Nick, who trained in France, works inside AutoVino’s restored 1955 Flxible diner bus. As the pizzaiolo, he prepares Neapolitan-style pizzas with dough fermented for 48 hours. Each pizza is baked in a 900-degree Fahrenheit oak-fired oven. In addition to pizzas, he serves oak-fired chicken wings.

Inge creates charcuterie boards featuring salami, prosciutto, brie, cheddar, olives, nuts, crackers, artisan bread, and sweet jellies.

WOODSIDE VINEYARDS BY THE GLASS OR BOTTLE

Kings Mountain offers Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Pinot Noir from Woodside Vineyards, available by the glass or bottle during Happy Hour.

BRING YOUR DOG

Dogs are welcome in the AutoVino Wine Garden, home to resident Labradors Honey and Daisy. Happy Hour is complimentary and open to all. Please arrive early to place your food order and select a table before the music starts.

THE AGENDA IS ONLY PART OF THE CONFERENCE

A conference can have a strong speaker, a carefully planned agenda, and important content, yet still lose the room.

Corporate planners are responsible for much more than the formal program. Arrival, room configuration, technology, food service, breaks, and transitions all affect how the day runs. The venue should help bring those pieces together.

ARRIVAL SHOULD BE SIMPLE

AutoVino offers free, flat-rate parking and an accessible path from the parking area to the venue. Guests can arrive and enter the conference space without navigating a hotel complex or a distant parking structure.

THE ROOM SHOULD SUPPORT THE PROGRAM

The conference space can be arranged for classroom, theater, boardroom, roundtable, and other program formats.

Large presentation screens, sound, wireless microphones, Wi-Fi, and technical support accommodate presentations, panel discussions, videoconferencing, and remote participation. Everything is brought together in one well-lit setting, surrounded by exotic cars.

LUNCH SHOULD BE PART OF THE PLAN

Attendees should not have to leave the venue to find lunch in the middle of the conference day.

AutoVino can provide breakfast, lunch, afternoon refreshments, and closing hospitality. The kitchen is led by a French-trained chef, and plated, buffet, and food-station service are available. Dietary requirements can also be accommodated during the planning process.

BREAKS ARE PART OF THE EXPERIENCE

When a session ends, attendees can step away from their tables to continue conversations among AutoVino’s automobile collection.

The cars remain part of the setting without becoming the focus of the conference. They provide a different environment for breaks and informal conversations before the next session begins.

PLAN THE COMPLETE DAY

A conference venue should do more than provide chairs and a screen. It should support the program from arrival through the final conversation.

AutoVino brings together meeting space, technology, food service, hospitality, and an exotic-car environment at one San Carlos location.

PHOEBE TURNS 21. SORT OF.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 23 | 12–4 PM

Phoebe turns three this Sunday. By traditional dog-year math, that makes her 21 in human years. That calls for a party for dogs and the people who chauffeur them to AutoVino.

THE AUTOVINO BIRTHDAY CLUB

Honey and Daisy may be AutoVino’s resident Labradors, but the Birthday Club extends beyond the house dogs. Local dogs regularly bring their humans to Friday Night Happy Hour and to weekend afternoons in the Wine Garden. Some, like Phoebe, even choose AutoVino for their birthday parties.

PHOEBE’S GUEST LIST

Bring your well-behaved, leashed dog to meet the other guests, make the appropriate introductions, and help Phoebe celebrate her twenty-first.

While the dogs work the room, guests can settle in with hand-stretched Neapolitan-style pizza, baked at 900 degrees in the oak wood-fired oven, and wines from Woodside Vineyards.

Despite what Phoebe’s birthday portrait suggests, the Kings Mountain Cabernet is reserved for humans 21 and over. Dog-year math does not apply.

THE COLLEGE JAM THAT NEVER ENDED

Swamp Chicken’s roots reach back to college, when several members began jamming together. The musicians are engineers who live around the Bay Area and continued playing long after college ended.

The band returns to AutoVino with a set that moves through jazz, blues, and pop favorites. Come for a familiar song, order dinner from the diner bus, and spend Friday evening with live music and Woodside Vineyards wine in the Wine Garden.

Jewels Hanson’s Honky-Tonk Energy at AutoVino Wine Garden
FRIDAY, AUGUST 14 | 4:30–7 PM

Fremont-based country-rock singer-songwriter Jewels Hanson will perform outdoors this Friday at the AutoVino Wine Garden. The Happy Hour menu includes Woodside Vineyards wine, Neapolitan-style pizza, oak-fired wings, and charcuterie.

NASHVILLE CREDENTIALS AND SADDLE RACK ROOTS

Jewels Hanson blends country-rock with the honky-tonk stage experience she gained during nearly ten years as the frontwoman of Diablo Road, the house band at Fremont’s former Saddle Rack.

PIZZA, WINGS, AND CHARCUTERIE

Inside AutoVino’s restored 1955 Flxible diner bus, French-trained Chef Nick acts as the pizzaiolo, making Neapolitan-style pizzas with 48-hour fermented dough and baking them at 900 degrees. He also serves oak-fired chicken wings.

San Mateo Cars & Coffee at AutoVino: Where the Peninsula Car Community Meets

SUNDAY, AUGUST 9, 2026 | 11:00 AM TO 2:00 PM

This Sunday, San Mateo Cars & Coffee returns to AutoVino for an afternoon focused on the cars, their owners, and the conversations that happen when the Peninsula car community gathers.

Walk through the rows, photograph your favorites, meet local owners, and enjoy a variety of classics, exotics, modern performance cars, and specialty vehicles. Some guests arrive with a car to share, while others come just to see what shows up.

That mix is part of what makes the event interesting.

The AutoVino showroom and car museum will also remain open all afternoon.

COME FOR THE CARS. STAY FOR THE CONVERSATION.

A familiar car can begin a story. An unusual one can stop a crowd. And sometimes the best part of the afternoon is meeting someone you wouldn't have talked to otherwise.

Friends catch up. Owners compare notes. Families walk the rows together. Newcomers get a closer look at cars they may have only seen online.

Honey and Daisy, AutoVino’s resident Labradors, will also be there, along with many four-legged visitors.

LUNCH IN THE WINE GARDEN

The AutoVino Wine Garden will be open for lunch with wood-fired pizza from the restored 1955 Flxible diner bus, charcuterie by Inge, and wines from Woodside Vineyards.

Bring your car or come see what rolls in. Bring your camera, family, and dog, and spend Sunday with the Peninsula car community.
