A special thank you to the San Benito News for selecting my story to be featured this week. To have Dancer Evolution introduced to the community where my own journey began makes this moment even more meaningful, and I am truly honored and grateful for this feature. ❤️
Two years ago, my dad encouraged me to start writing Dancer Evolution. I started it, but I kept putting it off. When I came back to the book after losing my dad last year, it felt completely different.
My dad was the ultimate dance dad. From the time I was a little girl, my parents never missed a performance. My dad was always in the audience with the huge video camera, recording every routine. Years later, when I became the San Benito Belles Drill Team Director, he was still there in the stands with my mom at football games, watching every performance. When I became a studio owner, he was right there again, helping me build and prepare my studios and making sure my dancers and I had what we needed. My dad wasn’t simply watching my journey unfold, he was part of it. He had seen me grow from a little girl who loved to dance into an educator, director, studio owner, and coach who had spent years working with dancers.
When I returned to this book after losing my dad, the book took on a much deeper meaning. He was the one who encouraged me to write it because he felt that after so many years of working with dancers, I had experiences and lessons that could make a difference in their journey.
And now, I’m finally ready to share Dancer Evolution. ❤️
Dancer Evolution was written for dancers who may be just beginning to find their place in the studio, preparing for a school dance or drill team tryout, entering a new dance season, competing, pursuing an officer position, or dreaming of dancing in college. Through this 15-week program, I coach dancers through recognizing their strengths, discovering their passion, building confidence, stepping outside their comfort zone, developing consistency, and setting meaningful goals. My hope isn't simply that dancers finish the 15 weeks as a better dancer. I want them to understand themselves better.
Eventually the music stops, the competition ends, and the costumes are stored away. What I want performers to carry with them is the person they discovered underneath it all. That’s the dancer evolution that matters most to me.❤️
Thank you to all of my dancers and families for your continuous support! I’m truly honored to have you along with me on this journey!🫶🏻
