Join us for the only open mic poetry with amazing chips and queso! This week we’re featuring writers from JOTA - A Q***r and Latina y Latinx Anthology.

JOTA: A Q***r Latina y Latinx Anthology is a landmark collection of over 70 q***r writers and artists. Building on the foundation of Chicana Le****ns: The Girls Our Mothers Warned Us About (1991) and Compañeras (1987), JOTA shares a new addition to the q***r Latinx literary and artistic canons with stories, poems, essays, plays, art, and music. JOTA arrives at a critical moment when political systems threaten q***r communities once again—yet contributors now have more tools to resist. We will resist! JOTA’s movement promises to illuminate generational shifts from fear and silence to bold and brazen declarations of identity, honoring the radiant visual and written stories of our ancestors of the past, present, and future.

Open mic will accompany the feature. Come share or come listen.

It’s the regular open mic with amazing chips and queso, but also with special guest Edward Vidaurre.

Edward Vidaurre is an award-winning poet and author of ten collections of poetry. He is the 2018-2019 City of McAllen, Texas Poet Laureate, 2022 inductee to the Texas Institute of Letters, and publisher of FlowerSong Press. His writings have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Texas Observer, Los Angeles Review of Books, and other journals and anthologies. Vidaurre resides in McAllen, Texas with his wife Liliana, and daughter Luisa Isabella.

Edward will be reading from his latest book, El Viejo, published by El Ma****lo Press. Books will be available for purchase
