The Visions We Manifest Artists Talk & Closing Reception on Saturday, June 27th, 7PM. Doors open at 6:30pm

Join curator and moderator Myown Sims for an engaging artist talk featuring eleven artists from ‘The Visions We Manifest’ exhibition.

The conversation will explore how Artist from the tail end of Millennials through Gen Z are shaping the future of creative expression while honoring the legacies and traditions that came before them. Working across figurative art, mixed media, and sculpture, these artists transform personal experience and cultural memory
into powerful visual narratives, challenging dominant perspectives and imagining new possibilities for the future.

ABOUT THE CURATOR/MODERATOR
Myown Sims is a rising curator and mixed media artist who’s passionate about highlighting and celebrating the work of black and brown artists. Sims has a background in Fine Arts and holds a BFA in Animation. She’s currently studying art history in the MA
program at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Her goal as a curator is to advocate for inclusivity and spaces dedicated to artists of color within galleries and museums.

Within her practice as an artist, her work often explores topics of mental health, identity, sexuality and celebrates black culture. She continues to build her career as a curator and an artist in San Antonio.

The Beacon at Midtown is excited to have multidisciplinary artist, Djay MESE and her artwork featured tonight for “The Visions We Manifest” exhibition, featuring drawing. painting, mixed media, and sculpture works from 13 artists:
Priscilla Bermejo, Amira Churchwell (MESE), Deja Coleman, Kwanzaa Edwards, Kataleena Garrett, Gakwaya Gisa, Josiah Harris, Symone Harvey, Anathalia Jolie, Candice Parker, Michael Patterson, Katlyn Powell, and Gary Young

Curated by Myown Sims. Free and open to the public.

There has been construction happening on the block, but the gallery is accessible from the following directions:

1. Woodlawn Ave and Michigan Ave (driving on Woodlawn from San Pedro Rd. toward Fredericksburg Rd.) there is a lane open to drive through despite the road closure signs on that end of the block.

2. From Capital to Woodlawn (either direction)

3. Avoid Fredericksburg to Woodlawn Ave. that access is blocked.

4. Parking available on the gallery grounds or directly across the street.

The Beacon at Midtown Gallery is located on 1136 Woodlawn Ave on the block between Capital and Michigan.

Highlights: Travesura Sagrada (Sacred Mischief) solo performance by Genevieve Obregón of San Antonio. After her solo she gave the female guests carnations (so sweet!) She was one of three phenomenal Flamenco dancers. 🔥
