Celebrate Anaka’s birthday with us today, where we’ll be having our Member Giveaway Pin Series with the fourth collectible pin featuring the birthday girl!

This pin is the fourth of eight collectible zoo pins, and each future Member Giveaway Day will reveal a new pin, so the collecting never stops. Seven pins feature our beloved gorillas, so stay in the loop on upcoming dates to complete your set.

The first 500 Members with an active ZooBand through the gates on August 30 will receive a complimentary, limited-edition Anaka pin. To claim yours, you must pick up and activate your ZooBand prior to receiving your pin. Gorilla pins are limited and available while supplies last.

Don’t miss your chance to be one of the first 500!

Two birthdays. Two big celebrations. One wild week at Congo Falls.

Join us Sunday, August 30 at 10 a.m. as we celebrate Anaka’s 13th birthday with a cheer-themed party inspired by one of her favorite things to do: clap! The gorilla team will have special cheerleading-inspired enrichment ready for Anaka, who is known for being sassy, playful and just a little mischievous. She loves toys, often carries items around on her back and can frequently be found wrestling, playing and snuggling with Merry.

Members can make Anaka’s birthday even more special. The first 500 Members through the gates on August 30 who show an active ZooBand can receive a limited-edition Anaka pin.

Then, Tuesday, September 1 at 10 a.m., we’re celebrating Shana’s 24th birthday with a Batman-themed party! The theme comes from his animal care team, who often sing his name to the tune of the Batman theme song. Shana is known for his curiosity, expressive eyes and ability to pick up on training quickly, and the gorilla team will have special birthday enrichment waiting for him.

Come celebrate Anaka and Shana with us at Congo Falls!

Meet the mammal that lays eggs, hunts using electrical signals, glows under UV light, and, if it’s male, comes equipped with venomous ankle spurs.

In the latest episode of Edge of the Earth: Tales of Conservation, Dr. Danté Fenolio and Sierra Fenolio sit down with platypus conservation biologist Dr. Tahneal Hawke to explore the bizarre biology of one of Earth’s strangest species.

From studying platypuses in the wild to understanding the unusual adaptations that make them so unique, this episode is packed with fascinating discoveries and plenty of evidence that platypuses might just be nature’s closest thing to little aliens.

There’s always something blooming at the zoo! 🌸

Phalaenopsis orchids, also known as moth orchids, get their name from blooms that look like moths in flight. Their thick roots are built to soak up moisture quickly, and research has shown that some of their roots may even be able to photosynthesize! Their incredible flowers can also stay in bloom for weeks at a time.
