On this Mother’s Day weekend we are reflecting on the beauty mother nature provides. This South Sea Pearl Necklace is timeless elegance. It features 27 white South Sea Pearls, and if you look closely, there is even a small diamond set in one of the pearls. The handmade box catch is fabricated in platinum, featuring a blue Kyanite stone. Using materials from Mother Earth and transforming them to become wearable art is a gift we are grateful for every day.

This exhibition brings together San Antonio artists who expand craft traditions through textiles, wood, metal, ceramics, and hybrid media—showing how the intelligence of the hand turns making into meaning. Featuring Leo Barrios, Margaret Craig, Casey Galloway, Diana Kersey, Sarah Sauer, Alejandro Sifuentes, the work treats craft as a way of knowing: embodied knowledge built through touch, repetition, and long attention to material.

Rooted in San Antonio’s layered lineage—from early tradespeople and architectural artisans to the legacy of the Southwest School of Art (now UTSA Southwest)—the exhibition also reflects the city’s borderlands identity, shaped by migration and cultural exchange. In a moment of rapid automation and increasingly disembodied production, these works reaffirm the value of presence: objects that carry time, care, and human choice. Moving between utility and contemplation, they position San Antonio as both steward and innovator—a place where heritage and experimentation meet, and where new material languages are being forged.

On March 20th, 2011, the Spring Equinox marked the beginning of a new chapter in Alejandro's career. He had a vision to create a space to showcase his work alongside works by people of different backgrounds and skills. He wanted to have space for all kinds of artistic expression, like gathering around a table full of food that everyone shared. Equinox Jewelry Gallery became that special place, and has evolved over the years. Since 2022, the gallery is known as Sifuentes Metalsmith, to honor the name and partnership of Alejandro Sifuentes and his daughter Sarah Sifuentes.

This year marks 15 years of Equinox / Sifuentes Metalsmith. It is our "Quinceañera" year, a very important milestone. It's a celebration of a life lived, while looking forward with excitement for what is ahead.

We will host a party at the gallery on Friday March 20th, 2026.

“La Sirena” Pearl Ring.

This ring is inspired by the sea. While sitting at the beach, taking in the ocean breeze, a mermaid is seen in the glittering water. She had no jewels to adorn herself, so I craft a ring with a large mabe pearl, and round brilliant diamonds circling the center. The shank is curved like the waves of the ocean, with a small diamond hiding in plain sight. The finishing touches are a crisscross texture on the sides, that give this ring a contemporary edge. I offer the ring to the mermaid as a gift to the sea.

“Use the hammer,” he said.

So I did.
And this face is the exact moment I realized I just broke my grandfather’s rock hammer.

Alejandro told me to use it to crack lapis for a ring. I wanted that rough, exposed surface.

The lapis rolled away, unharmed.
The hammer did not.

P.s. it’s reparable.
