Andrés Ferrandis is a Spanish artist known for his mixed media works that use color to connect the viewer with memories and emotions. In this piece, Ferrandis successfully combines digital imagery and acrylic paint, creating a harmonious image that aims to convey the concept of memory and life cycles. In Waiting for Surf, the artist paints large, bright colored dots to depict the fragmentation of light to create a specific mood and sense of place. Ferrandis combines new materials and different media to move beyond the tradition limits of the canvas in order to provoke an emotional and sensory effect on the viewer.

Sam Messenger is a British artist known for his pen and ink drawings that explore concepts of repetition, geometry, and direct observation. In this piece, Messenger creates a hypnotizing image that is based in mathematical concepts, yet is executed completely by hand. Veil from Urizen’s mesmerizing texture and illusion of depth makes the viewer feel like they are peering into a different world. Sam Messenger’s impressive and detailed designs aim to convey the concept of control in order to show how little control we really have.

By far one of our favorite pieces in the gallery’s new art collection is this work by Thomas Whitte. In his work, Whitte creates an exceptionally detailed scene of a public pool in 1967 by meticulously hand-cutting a single piece of white paper and setting it against a light blue paper background. The sheer size of this work coupled with its remarkable intricacy and painstaking precision makes this piece fascinating to look at, especially in person.

Happy Friday! Sharing a really great mobile today- “Autumn Clouds Mobile” by Brad Howe. The balance is perfectly asymmetrical and the pieces rotate when a puff of air hits them. This hangs 12” down from the ceiling and has a diameter of 70” across at its widest. Mostly made of aluminum, it is lightweight and turns easily.
