Parade at 9 a.m. Join us in the Historic King William District in San Antonio for the Annual King William Fair! Welcoming more than 30,000 fairgoers, the King William Fair has something for everybody.

• Quirky Parade

The day starts with the best little parade in Texas! A mile and a half meander through the neighborhood, which will include political parodies, parading pooches, marching bands, and belly dancing. About 200 Art & Craft vendors sell original hand crafted items, which include stained glass, wind chimes, paintings, photography, ceramics, apparel, home-made foods, home accessories, and more! The streets will be filled with the aroma of sizzling fajitas, as families amble the streets enjoying funnel cakes, sausage on a stick, snow cones, kettle corn and more! Food and Beverage booths will be conveniently located throughout the entire neighborhood. Spend the afternoon enjoying soulful sounds and happy harmonies while listening to lyrical melodies of local and imported bands at five distinct venues. Kids can play at Kid's Kingdom, which offers a mix of children’s activities from crafts to basketball games and rides; as well as a rock-wall climbing in a tree-shaded park setting. The mission of the King William Fair is to support the arts, education, and community improvements with family fun in Texas' first residential historic neighborhood.

This home in the King William Area is a high style Neoclassical house with multiple Corinthian columns. The house’s grandeur is emphasized by its wide entranceway, elaborate doorframe, and two-story front porch with dentil decoration.

Gus Kray, a jeweler, and his wife, Mamie, built this two-story house around 1912. It was their home until 1921 when they sold it to the F.V. Alters. Mr. Alter was the proprietor of Alter’s Drug Store at the corner of South Alamo and South St. Mary’s Streets.

This Victorian-style house uses a decorative brick pattern in the lintels and belt course banding. Beautiful details include the multiple entrances, arched transom window, spindle porch balusters, and the diamond and dart pattern on the gable front.

This house was probably built around 1901 by Charles Chabot, who lived there for a short time and then rented to A. H. Halff from about 1903 to 1910. Charles Chabot was widowed twice before he moved back to this house again with his third wife, Olive. Mrs. Chabot and her daughter, Mary Chabot, sold the property, which was a duplex at the time, to Ruperto B. and Guadalupe L. Sanchez in 1959.The Sanchez family, including daughters Luisa and Diana, moved in and soon converted the house to a single family residence.

Mr. Sanchez was a businessman and one of his many businesses, “The Sanchez Ice House,” continues to operate today. Mrs. Sanchez believed in physical fitness before it was a fad. She spent many years physically maintaining her garden and in her later years would bicycle or walk between 6 and 7pm each evening before returning home to watch her novelas. This house remained the center of their family, and at one time four generations lived in the neighborhood.

One of our favorite things to witness at the fair is the AMAZING and unique collection of hats. These ladies nailed it and set the bar high for all of us this year!

113 City, a one-story Victorian Queen Anne house, was designed with a front gable and two-story octagonal tower. The tower’s decoration includes three lattice windows. Originally, the house had a semi-circular front porch.

After purchasing this lot from Kate May in 1895 for $495, Edward and Teodolinda Heusinger contracted with the San Antonio Real Estate Building and Loan Association to construct a dwelling “to be finished within a reasonable time from this date” for $1440.

From 1911 until 1919 the house belonged to Edward’s parents, Adolph and Anna Heusinger (see 317 King William). During that time one of the more interesting temporary residents was Emilio Vasquez Gomez. Sometime after August 2, 1911, when he was dismissed from his post as the interior secretary of Mexico, he rented this house. He may have been living here when he was offered the position of provisional president of Mexico in 1912.

Annie Guerguin (sister of Edward Heusinger and widow of Leopold Guerguin) became the owner of the house in 1919 and deeded it to her son, Carlos, in 1943. He owned the property until 1949, when he sold it to Carolina S. Garza. The property is still owned by her family.

We are thrilled to be showing San Antonio artist Blanquita Sullivan's exhibit "Night Breezes" at the Molly Shafer Gallery in the King William Association headquarters starting next week. Her whimsical, richly colored artwork combines storytelling into a kind of portraiture where fashion, objects, and environment become part of the subject's identity.

Her works will be available for view starting late next week, and we hope that you are able to join us for a "Meet the Artist" reception on September 17 at 6:00 PM.

When we say that the King William Fair is family friendly, we mean the whole family! We have pets that have been coming to the fair for years, and we love having them join us.

If you want to bring your four legged (or three, two, one, or no legged) companions with you to the fair on April 24, 2027, we welcome them. Just don't forget to pose for the camera!
